Details of the offer

DESCRIPTION Are you passionate about reducing the carbon footprint of packaging, and developing curbside recyclable packaging solutions using new technologies? If so, this role may be for you. We are looking for an experienced, driven, analytical, and creative Sr. Program Manager to identify, design, develop, test, execute, and scale paper-based curbside recyclable packaging solutions for the Customer Packaging Experience team.
Our team of product managers, program managers, scientists and analysts interface with core operations, logistics, supply chain, fulfillment engineering, Amazon Robotics, Finance, Private Brands, Global Specialty Fulfillment, procurement, and packaging suppliers to identify solutions which reduce carbon emissions, enable curbside recyclability, and eliminate waste. In this role you will both think big and execute, creating scalable long-term solutions for global application. You will use your communication, negotiation and influencing skills to drive consensus and foster collaboration across multiple internal and external stakeholders.
You will be successful in this role if you passionately develop new packaging concepts based on existing and learned expertise in packaging materials, operational processes, and supply chains. You will design and implement operational test plans for rapid learning and iteration of packaging design and material specifications, leveraging research science expertise on the team to evaluate results analytically and scale solutions globally. You will stay up to date on packaging trends, quickly seeing past marketing to identify the best technical solutions that can solve problems for Amazon and our customers. Once a solution is designed, you will quickly shift to an operator's perspective to drive efficient and effective implementation across Amazon's fulfillment network. In doing this, you use your concise and effective communication skills to keep cross-functional stakeholders and leaders informed of opportunities and blockers.
In addition, you will troubleshoot and problem solve autonomously in an ambiguous environment. You will have high ownership of your work, as proven by a record of driving projects and strategic initiatives to their completion independently. To achieve this, you are motivated, agile, with strong time management and project management skills, and have experience working in a technical environment.
Key job responsibilities
Manage new and existing programs, successfully delivering difficult projects and goals across multiple organizations
Work directly with operations leaders, support leaders, and third party vendors to design and deliver scalable solutions
Partner with other program managers to secure resources, scope efforts, set project priorities and milestones and deliver on-time
Own program communication; accelerating progress by driving crisp and timely decisions, removing barriers, escalating as appropriate
Influence design and development of strategic processes
Work with program managers and business leaders to communicate and impact critical business initiatives
Develop, implement, and govern KPI reporting for a portfolio of programs, providing visibility to the milestones, and performance across all projects and using this data to drive/influence business decisions
Engage other Amazon business units globally to share best practices and improve end-to-end outcomes for Amazon customers
Manage post-launch support plans (e.g., post-mortem, issue/ticket management, etc.) and look for opportunities to improve program quality and operational excellence
Expect to be within FC's up to 25%, including up to 50% during new project launches
We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations: Bellevue, WA; Seattle, WA; Boston, MA; Arlington, VA
About the team
When customers shop online, handling the delivered package is their first physical contact with the order. The MSP organization works backwards from this customer experience to deploy packaging technologies that harmonize with Amazon's priorities on safety, productivity, sustainability, regulatory risk, and cost. We develop mechanisms to match our expanding product catalog to the finite set of boxes available in our fulfillment centers (FCs). We own initiatives that replace traditional corrugate boxes with less wasteful options, including flexible pack types (padded and unpadded) and forgoing Amazon packaging altogether ("Ship In Product Packaging", SIPP). We design and deploy automated packing technologies across our network, to augment labor productivity and eliminate safety hazards by reducing manual work. Lastly, we are the source of packaging information for various internal stakeholders, including forecasts for operational/financial planning, and positioning for public corporate communications (e.g., shareholder disclosures).
We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:
Arlington, VA, USA | Bellevue, WA, USA | Boston, MA, USA | Seattle, WA, USA BASIC QUALIFICATIONS • 5+ years of working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams experience
• 5+ years of cross functional project delivery experience
• 5+ years of program or project management experience
• Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements
• Lift and move totes up to 49 pounds each
• Regular bending, lifting, stretching and reaching both below the waist and above the head
• Walking in the FC and around area with great frequency; facilities are over a quarter mile in length
• Must be able to stand/walk for up to 10-12 hours
• Should be able to work in environments with variable noise levels, lighting conditions and temperature variation
• Able to access all areas of building (ascending and descending ladders, stairs, gangways safely and without limitation)
