Job Description The primary responsibility of the Sr. Manager – K9 Operations at Wynn Las Vegas is to manage all aspects of the K9 Operations for the overall safety and security of employees, guests, and property. The Sr. Manager – K9 Operations is also responsible for upholding the Forbes Five-Star standards and the Wynn Resort Core Values and Behaviors. The Sr. Manager – K9 Operations position requires a positive attitude, strong leadership abilities, and the capacity to provide guidance, support and oversight to the handlers, shift counterparts and security special operations teams. This position is accountable for the overall work performance of the canine handler staff, administrative duties, and any additional responsibilities assigned by senior security management.
Essential Duties The Sr. Manager – K9 Operations essential functions are to ensure the effective deployment of the Wynn Las Vegas canines for explosive and/or bed bug detection. The Sr. Manger will maintain and confirm compliance with all established safety protocols for the safety, liability, and integrity of the Wynn and Encore Las Vegas. This role is expected to monitor all Canine handlers, understand and enforce all company and department policies and procedures, and ensure appropriate staffing levels.
Manage a team of canine handlers, ensuring adherence to company and department policies and procedures. Coordinate the interviewing, selection, training, and certification of the canine handlers and the company canine team, in accordance with industry standards and industry best practices. Develop and implement ongoing training programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of canines and their handlers. Maintain records of training, certifications, deployments, and performance evaluation for all canines and their handlers. Schedule and monitor all feeding and canine health care requirements. Locate and evaluate canine acquisitions and confirm training standards for new canines. Evaluate and determine appropriate retirement for the canine unit. Collaborate with other departments, to include Food & Beverage, Conventions Sales, and Hotel Operations for Master Class presentations, room sweeps, and other canine related requests. Stay informed on latest industry developments in the field of canine operations and implement best practices when appropriate. Serve as a liaison between Wynn Las Vegas Security and the community, through approved public relations and marketing initiatives. Develop and implement all canine handler schedules, policies, protocols, and administrative functions. Ensure the Wynn Las Vegas canine program complies with all applicable regulations and certifications associated with detection. Participate in local canine competitions, in both the law enforcement and private sector. Qualifications Minimum 5-years of experience in training canines in the areas of explosive and/or bed bug detection. Minimum 5-years of experience managing the health and care of multiple working dogs in a licensed commercial kennel, including documentation and record maintenance. Minimum 5-years of demonstrated experience as a certified canine detection handler for a law enforcement, government, security, or military organization. Current certification as a Detection Canine Handler or similar professional certification from a professional association. Certification as a trainer for detection canine handling. Capable of designing, implementing, and sustaining a comprehensive training plan that includes on-boarding development for new canine handlers and maintenance of training for current handlers. In-depth knowledge of canine behavior, training techniques, and scent detection methods. Previous hospitality experience highly preferred. Strong ability to learn multiple computer systems and understanding of Microsoft Office software. Must be able to work effectively in stressful, high-pressure situations. Must be able to work alone or in a team. Must maintain confidentiality of patron information and pertinent hotel data. Perform essential job functions with attention to detail. Be able to stand, sit, kneel, lift and walk indoors and outdoors for extended periods of time. A valid Nevada Gaming License, CPR and Alcohol Awareness certification are required and must be obtained before entering this position. Must be 21 years of age or older and requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
