Salt Lake Community College Position Title: Specialist II, Teaching Assistant for STEM learning Summer camp (Part Time) Open Internally or Externally: External If faculty, tenure track status: Not Applicable Reports to (title): Program Manager 3, Business Advisor Department: The Mill Entrepreneurship Center Requisition Number: P24225 Position Type: One Year Temporary Job Category: Part-Time Staff - Variable FT/PT: Part-time Initial Work Location: Taylorsville Redwood Campus Starting Salary: $15.50-$16.24 Job Open Date: 05/20/2024 Job Close Date: Open Until Filled: Yes Priority Review Date: Job Summary: Position will serve as Teaching Assistant for the Instructor in helping facilitate a 3-week Innovative STEM learning summer camp funded by Verizon Learning. Using a turn-key curriculum developed by Verizon, instructors will introduce students to artificial intelligence and robotics, VR/AR, design thinking, social entrepreneurship, 3D design and printing. Through direct exposure to immersive technologies, students will learn first-hand how digital media and mobile technology can be leveraged to create and deliver innovative solutions to social issues Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Under the direction of the Verizon Innovative Learning (VIL) Program Director, acts as primary program support alongside a student mentor for the Verizon Innovative Learning STEM Achievers program to accomplish the program's goals and objectives; leads in the operation of VIL under SLCC SLCC whether on campus or virtual (remote).The bulk of the work will be completed the week(s) leading up to the camp, and during the three-week (M-H) camp 8-5. There will be occasional assignments and training throughout the year. This position will also be an active participant in marketing and recruiting efforts, including reaching out to participating school leadership, and onsite visits to increase awareness of the program.
Attend training to be instructed on prescribed learning modules.
Assist teacher in instructing students in the classroom through various modules of interactive learning tools.
Provide classroom oversight and management support in coordination site director, support staff and Instructors.Ability to follow instructions

Ability to create a fun and focused learning environment Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued: Minimum Qualifications: Must be available to attend camp every day of the 3-week delivery schedule.
Experience working with middle-school students. Preferred Qualifications: Awareness of Design Thinking, Tinkercad, CoSpaces, Merge Cube, Microbits, Sphero RVR, Onshape, (or similar).Previous experience mentoring or assisting instruction at the middle school level, preferable in science, math, or art fields. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to work cooperatively with staff, community, and middle school program participants.Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.Proficient in the use of the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).Excellent communication skillsExcellent organizational skillsAbility to teach at the middle school level.Ability to deliver interactive, engaging classroom experience.Ability to manage a classroom environment.Ability to execute delivery of curricular content providedAbility to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
