08/01/2024 The Special Education Family Liaison serves as a neutral and confidential management resource for parents, guardians, and district staff regarding the District's Special Education Program and its services and activities before, during, and after identification of a disability. The Special Education Family Liaison facilitates an understanding of and provides resources and information related to Special Education programs; works collaboratively with District staff and parents to assist parents/guardians in accessing programs and resources both in the district and within the community; and facilitates clear communication and assists in addressing and resolving parent/guardian concerns. The Special Education Family Liaison n is an integral part of the Special Programs team and takes a leadership role in the District's Special Education Advisory Committee. Reports consistently for work as scheduled
Performs other duties as assigned
Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards
Adheres to appropriate emergency procedures when necessary
Adheres to established schedule unless otherwise notified
Assists administrators, teachers, and staff in scheduling meetings, planning workshops, and providing support to families
Attends IEP meetings upon request and accompanies families to meetings and site visits as needed
Collaborates with school administration, legal, and public safety agencies to address student conduct and attendance issues
Coordinates professional development activities for families and staff in areas related to special education policies and procedures
Develops communication strategies for families transitioning to District-provided services
Ensures student and parent rights under IDEA and utilizes Alternative Dispute Resolution methods
Guides families through the Individual Education Program (IEP) process and provides information on educational and community resources
Increases family involvement in community resources, activities, and support groups
Initiates contact with parents/guardians to explain available services within the district and community
Leads the Special Education Advisory Council and facilitates meetings with stakeholders to improve special education services
Maintains confidentiality of all records and information
Maintains updated information on community organizations and social service agencies for special needs students and families
Organizes parent support groups and facilitates home-to-school communications
Performs clerical tasks such as reporting progress to the special education leadership team and maintaining activity logs
Provides training opportunities for parents regarding IDEA and the Special Education process
Responds to family inquiries and assists in accessing Special Education programs and services

Sits, stands, walks, stoops, kneels, and crouches/squats while performing duties
Has oral and auditory capacity enabling interaction interpersonally and/or through communication devices
Uses eyes, hands, and finger coordination enabling the use of equipment and writing utensils
Typical demands require staff to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, and may be higher for some assignments depending on position and student need; climb stairs, ladders, and/or stools; reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; use fingers to operate computer keyboards; feel the shape, size and temperature of objects.

The staff member may be required to analyze, communicate, compare, compile, compute, coordinate, copy, evaluate, instruct, negotiate, synthesize, and use interpersonal skills.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's (Baccalaureate) degree (e.g., B.A., A.B., B.S.) in education, social work, psychology, or counseling related field
3-5 Years Experience working in an education related field with knowledge of Special Education core concepts, including knowledge of IEPs, IDEA, MTSS, and Special Education regulations and legal/statutory requirements
Compensation Range:
$44,340-$54,340 (Based on job relevant experience at 100% FTE)
