Job Summary:

As a section manager, you will coach your team of unit managers and help assist them in managing their teams. You will review projects and procedures to implement program and operational improvements; assist in the development of goals and strategies; develop policies and procedures related to environmental permitting, enforcement, compliance, monitoring, and/or scientific studies; ensure that operations meet established timeframes and objectives; provide guidance and interpretation of federal and state laws/regulations related to complex regulatory situations; manage the most complex or high profile projects or assignments.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
•Knowledge of leadership and business management principles, including budgets (expenditure and revenue generations), employee motivation, team-based problem-solving techniques, and principles of performance and visual management; Project management and program management techniques, particularly the coordination of people and resources through result-driven leadership
•Knowledge of State and Federal environmental regulations. An understanding of the fundamentals of what makes something a solid waste and how that nexuses into potentially becoming a hazardous waste. Knowledge of operations that include solid and hazardous waste generation, transportation, and disposal of which includes source reduction and recycling.
•Ability to understand and apply environmental rules and statutes; to follow guidance documents, standard operating procedures, and other technical instructions in the performance of tasks; balance, prioritize, and organize multiple tasks and complete assignments by applicable deadlines; to prepare clear, concise and accurate reports; an understanding of corrective action and its associated costs; and to summarize completed tasks and/or monitoring data orally and in written communication.

Selective Preference(s):
•Experience with continuous improvement, including LEAN, Six Sigma, and others.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
•A Bachelors degree in environmental science, environmental management, business management, environmental or chemical engineering, chemistry, biology, hydrology, geology, or a related field
•5-8 years of environmental experience in a regulatory agency, consulting, or private industry
•4 years of leadership/supervisory experience in an environmental, regulatory, or industrial setting
