Position Summary: This position is responsible for establishing a solid foundation for the delivery of SNAP-Ed programming and providing nutrition education programming to limited resource clients. The incumbent will achieve effective program delivery and desired program outcomes among the target population and provide education for community agencies and organizations.
This position is based in Lowndes County. The employee will exhibit qualities of independent judgment. Work may include occasional night and/or weekend work.
Illustrative examples of work:
1. Plans, organizes, schedules, and conducts nutrition and food safety classes for limited resource adult clients.
2. Prepares for and conducts food demonstrations for group classes. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Ability to speak to/teach large groups of residents. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county, district, and state staff, local government employees, and clientele. Ability to show high standards of professionalism. Strong communication skills and experience interacting with a wide range group of people. Ability to lead groups effectively including ability to speak clearly. Ability to coordinate, teach and evaluate educational programs to meet community needs. Prior experience teaching, training, motivating, or coaching groups or individuals. Prior work experience in nutrition education. Physical Demands: Stand for long periods to effectively present program to attendees. Lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Speak effectively to audiences without amplification. Effectively use kitchen tools including knives, spoons, blenders, choppers, etc. Driving as needed to perform job duties. Duties/Responsibilities: Effectively organizes time and materials by reviewing program lessons, efficiently develops shopping lists for necessary ingredients, including coordinating lists of multiple recipes or with other teammates. Utilizes Outlook calendar to schedule and communicate programs, county events and activities. Ensures Calendar is thorough and accurately reflects to all activities. Complies with county funds policy/practices to purchase food demonstration supplies, including efficient resources management, ensures invoices are properly documented and submitted in a timely manner, and all food supplies stored safely. Submits mileage reimbursement for any shopping/program delivery/training submitted according to policy. Effectively conducts food preparation activities to include chopping, mixing, slicing, dicing, and correctly measure ingredients. Utilizes basic household kitchen equipment including cookware, mixers, knives, and baking equipment. Ensures all program/teaching materials/requirements are prepared and ready for an organized presentation. Maintains knowledge of inventory and supplies for demonstrations to minimize waste and/or over purchasing. Coordinates inventory reconciliation with other team members as appropriate. May utilize role as Educator to support relationships with appropriate organizations to offer nutrition education. Ensures full knowledge of educational content to effectively and efficiently present lessons as written and with appropriate methodology and ensuring food safety in the preparation. Leads activities, discussions and conducts food cooking/demonstrations for an audience of variable sizes. Respond effectively and problem solve various challenges associated with space allocation. Ensure food safety in transportation of food supplies and when providing food samples. Ensures effective data collection from class participants via forms or other methodologies. Conducts activities are responsive to the needs of the client, including evenings, weekends, and night schedules. Flexible scheduling is to be expected. Percentage of time: 70
Duties/Responsibilities: Attend and complete all job-related Extension training. This will involve occasional overnight travel. Completes UGA mandated training as appropriate. Complies with UGA/Extension policy and procedures including recordkeeping and accurate time recording. Completes county-based training as determined by County CEC or immediate supervisor. Percentage of time: 20
Duties/Responsibilities: Ensure program records and reports are submitted to the state office in an accurate, complete, and timely manner. Work with the UGA SNAP-Ed state office to establish the justification procedures and receive pre-approval from the Georgia Department of Human Services before starting any programming. Evaluate the suitability of current agency partnerships for reaching SNAP-Ed eligible clients. Uses Microsoft Office Suite and other UGA recordkeeping systems. Percentage of time: 5
Duties/Responsibilities: Coordinate efforts with the District Program Development Coordinator and the County Extension Coordinator to establish community partnerships with agencies and organizations that will facilitate the delivery of SNAP-Ed programming for the target population.
