General Summary: Responsible for managing, training and leading the Health Care Assistants on his/her shift. Makes decisions regarding scheduling, safety, and staffing and is ultimately responsible for the care and supervision of the students on his/her shift. 1. Directs and manages the Health Care Assistants on his/her shift. Rewards employees for their exceptional work.
2. Delegates responsibility to shift members as appropriate.
3. Works in cooperation with the HR Manager throughout the hiring process. Completes the reference checks for potential hires and makes the final hiring decision.
4. Provides new hires with an on-shift orientation using the orientation checklist provided.
5. Trains shift members on an ongoing basis and formally each week in a shift training meeting.
6. Evaluates shift members on an ongoing basis and formally with a quarterly evaluation.
7. Responsible for disciplining shift members. Formal methods of discipline include: verbal warning, write-up, probation, suspension, and termination.
8. Communicates any pertinent events occurring on his/her shift in a shift change meeting with the relieving supervisor (or the night staff).
9. Represents his/her shift at the weekly interdisciplinary Treatment Team meeting.
10. Conducts safety drills on a quarterly basis as instructed by the Lead Supervisor.
11. Performs the duties of a Health Care Assistant at a high level.
12. Responsible for executing the program events calendar.
1. Knowledge of Company policies and practices (see training manual).
2. Knowledge of hiring and discipline policies and procedure.
3. Knowledge of Health Care Assistant job duties and responsibilities.
4. Knowledge of the issues and disorders that the students are faced with.
5. Knowledge of medications distributed to students.
6. Skill in teaching and motivating both staff and students.
7. Skill in managing available resources and creating a true team environment.
8. Skill in communication.
9. Ability to prioritize and organize.
10. Ability to safely hold or restrain an upset or combative student.
11. Ability to work effectively with other professionals such as therapists and nurses.
12. Ability to lead by example.
13. Excellence in all Health Care Assistant knowledge, skills, and abilities.
The position requires experience working with at risk youth, or post high school training in the field of mental health. Experience working at New Haven specifically is also required. A Bachelors degree in a related field of study is preferred but not required.
