Our client in the Olive Branch, MS area is looking for experienced Sewing Machine Operators. Shift is 7 am – 3 pm. Hourly rate starts at $13 an hour. Under the general direction of the Expansion Value Stream Manager, the Sewing Machine Operator is responsible for ensuring that the finished product conforms to the instructions provided in the work order. Specific responsibilities include: Start sewing machinery at the beginning of a shift and test it for proper functionality.
Ensure that all materials and parts are available and gather prior to beginning work.
Address any problems found while sewing.
Draw threads through needles and adjust the machine.
Position materials under needles to sew them together.
Replace and rethread needles.
Sew missing stitches or replacement parts in accordance with repair instructions provided.
Observe operations to detect any faults or defects.
Notify supervisors of any problems or discrepancies during the sewing process
Attach parts as specified in the work order.
Ensure that the finished product conforms to the instructions provided in the work order.
Ensure that excess material or threads are cut away from the finished product.
Trim finished bags using scissors and cutters.
Perform preventative maintenance such as cleaning and oiling the machine.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimal Skills, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements: Ability to work cooperatively with others both within the department and externally.
Technical knowledge of the processes and equipment with 3-5 years related work experience in a manufacturing environment.
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
Ability to read a tape measure.
Ability to read work orders and patterns.
Sew complete bag to customer specifications.
Ability to solve problems using formalized problem-solving techniques. Ability to understand basic processes and methodically improve them.
Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements: Previous warehouse experience required.
Previous experience as sewing machine operator.
Valid driver's license.
High school diploma or GED, required.
Must be able to pass drug screening & background check.
Authorized to work in US.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including mandatory overtime.
