S2Technologies is seeking a skilled Senior VMWare System Administrator to support AFTAC and sustain/enhance the 709th Cyber Support Squadron's capabilities to provide cyberspace mission assurance for AFTAC's global enterprise.
Job Responsibilities: Document and present criteria and specifications for system modification and maintain equipment Support network tests to validate interoperability of changes on the operational network. Address and provide mitigation plan on CCRI findings. Maintain CCRI patching compliance score of 2.5 or below on a weekly basis. Provide technical support for VMware vSphere daily operations and migrations. Ensure ESXi host and VMware software compliance with all applicable DoD and AF policies for hardware/software configuration and approval requirements throughout the lifecycle of the system/software. Meet the following certification and accreditation standards: ICD 503 - IC Info Tech Systems Security Risk Management, and NIST 800-53, Security and Privacy Controls for Federal Information Systems and Organizations. Use VMware tools to monitor storage system performance, as well as gather historical records of this performance to create effective storage subsystem performance presentations. Communicate storage subsystem performance to customers identifying real and perceived performance problems. Optimize virtualization performance using VMware and Windows tools, and recommend corrective actions to any real and perceived performance problems. Collaborate with team members to derive a collectively agreed upon course of action while informing the AFTAC team lead. Adjust all performance settings of individual virtualization server, virtualized hosts, software, data replications, snapshots, and backup configurations in order to optimize virtualization performance. Maintain virtualization by the daily monitoring and reporting of any hardware or software faults. Address virtualization reporting by opening internal service tickets and remediate faults that are locally fixable. Provide technical support for bare metal and VMware hosted RedHat, Microsoft Windows servers, Solaris x86, and VDI. Ensure Windows server instances are compliant with all applicable DoD and AF policies for hardware/software configuration and approval requirements, to ensure sustainability and availability throughout the lifecycle the system/software. Support and deploy virtualized solutions on public, private, and hybrid CLOUDS. 2.5.7 Monitor, plan, and coordinate the distribution of client/server software and service packs via scheduled outages. Execute system backups and verification of data integrity with backup client and VMWare snapshots. Schedule and perform various areas of data restoral across all networks. Manage job scheduling/automation - routine jobs and knowledge of scripting. Perform audit logs of all systems via log puller script and verification to ensure logs are pulling correctly. Provide support to the IT manager in developing and coordinating future IT infrastructure replacement plans and shall include hardware tech refreshes and software upgrades. Oversee network and server configuration maintenance and management with proper continuity on day-to-day tasks. Coordinate large-scale projects such as the movement of a data storage, physicalto-virtual (P2V) server conversions. Carry out VMWare administration, this shall include Pool software version upgrades or patches, maintenance mode for VM upgrades such as increasing RAM or local storage, all other Enterprise functions shall include metadata backups and snapshots, Role Based Access Control (RBAC) (delegation of rights), VM protection policies, High Availability (HA), adding Storage Repositories (CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, FCP). Carryout tasks using the VMWare, this shall include software version upgrades or patches, maintenance mode for VM upgrades such as increasing RAM or local storage. Perform proactive space and growth management, HA and scalability improvements and strategy, backup and recovery improvements and strategy, and clustering and publication improvements and strategy. Evaluate vendor submissions for compliance with the customer's specifications on technical solutions. Evaluate service-level contracts for IT infrastructure such as server hardware or software licensing. Provide roadmap or transition plan for Sun Ray thin clients to VDI and VMware Horizon View deployment with focus on user presence and performance tuning. Using VMware technologies, provide AFTAC with working solutions with Dell Blades, rack mounted servers, storage and networking. Offer solutions with Distributed vSwitches, vMotion/svMotion, SRM, HA, load balancing, and evaluate, research and strategically improve current DR solutions with recommendations such as Veeam. Lead project teams and facilitates in core virtualization based technologies and methods. Identify and develop solution pathways to business challenges and standards for implementation of those from a VMware vSphere services and security implementation perspective (specifically DISA STIG experience). Develops technical roadmaps for future implementations and analyzes complex and mixed system environment (Red Hat, Windows, Solaris x86), focusing on server, storage virtualization, and network infrastructure, to determine performance bottlenecks, application bugs, and opportunities to improve efficiency. Understanding of large Cisco UCS environments and/or experience with converged and hyper-converged server platforms such as FlexPod, or other appliances and platforms. Knowledge of storage technologies and protocols: HBAs, SAN, Fiber Channel, NAS, and CIFS/NFS/iSCSI. Experience in a multi-domain environment, preferably with global sites across WAN connections. Assess and make recommendations to improve HA/DR configuration of VMware Clusters. Work closely with implementation teams to ensure implementation meets design. Provide Documentation for newly designed systems, and design system capacity plan. Determine gaps in existing infrastructure and ways to mitigate these gaps.
