Primary Role Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Senior Technical Reporting Accountant (also known as Senior Technical Accounting Analyst) to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of our financial reporting by researching and reviewing technical GAAP and Statutory financial statement reporting positions. Your responsibilities will extend to monitoring updates in accounting standards, drafting position papers, and collaborating with our finance leadership team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stay abreast of developments from accounting and insurance industry standard-setting bodies such as FASB, SEC, AICPA, EITF, NAIC, and BCBSA, and assess their impact on our financial statements.
- Draft and review accounting white papers, position papers, and articulate the company's stance on technical accounting topics.
- Lead research efforts on complex accounting issues, engage with external auditors, and provide guidance to management.
- Offer technical accounting support to our business units, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
- Maintain and update corporate accounting policies to reflect regulatory changes and best practices.
- Contribute to external reporting and ensure accuracy in public disclosures.
- Collaborate with auditors on accounting matters and disclosure requirements.
- Support accounting due diligence and assist in M&A integration activities.
- Present updates on GAAP and Statutory regulations to accounting personnel and finance leadership.
- Contribute innovative ideas and insights into accounting best practices and industry trends, facilitating their implementation within the organization.
- Participate in special projects and provide support to other functions within the Finance Department as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in researching and developing technical accounting procedures to address complex accounting issues.
- Strong technical accounting skills, with the ability to align accounting principles with business objectives.
- Proven leadership capabilities, including project management and cross-functional team leadership.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to provide in-depth analysis and recommendations using critical thinking.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Capacity to manage multiple ad-hoc projects simultaneously while maintaining composure and good judgment.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, along with at least 7 years of financial reporting, accounting, and accounting research experience.
- Active CPA license required; CMA, MBA, or Master's in Accounting preferred, with experience in the health insurance industry being advantageous.
