Job Description and Duties Under the general direction of the Program/Project Management Office Chief (Supervising Transportation Engineer), the Senior Project Manager is responsible for managing and facilitating the development of assigned projects from inception thru construction completion and close-out. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the delivery of those projects on time, within approved funding, and according to the approved scope.  The Senior Project Manager will assume the responsibility as the Single Hat Project Manager for projects that are in the Project Initiation Phase and programmed projects in the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), the State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP), District Minor Program, Locally Funded Projects, and other Special Funded Projects.
This position requires knowledge of all phases of transportation engineering, including the project development process, principles and techniques of project management, and principles of project funding and budgeting. The incumbent must analyze situations accurately and develop an effective course of action. The incumbent must have the ability to effectively coordinate, negotiate, and communicate orally and in writing within the Department and externally.  
The position requires a valid Certification of Registration as a Civil Engineer in California.

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
While at the base of operation, the incumbent will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial light. There will be occasional fluctuations in building temperature. The work site may have limited viewing access to the outdoors and the incumbent will be assigned cubicle space as a base of operation.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of tele work is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their work sites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable. Special Requirements Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required.
Occasionaltravel may be required. Possession of a valid driver's license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
