Position Overview The senior human resources consultant is a member of an HR and academic affairs team that provides HR consultation, support, and services to the college leadership and community. This position provides one-on-one consultation and coaching to academic department chairs and directors, managers, supervisors, and other employees to identify solutions to problems and resolve issues.
The consultant must be highly knowledgeable of HR policies and practices to provide timely and accurate information to administrators, faculty, other academic employees, civil service, and labor-represented staff. The college's HR and academic affairs team partners with the University's central Office of Human Resources.
The consultant will contribute to developing processes and tools to increase diverse representation at all college levels. The consultant will serve as a strategic partner with academic chairs, directors, supervisors, and all employee groups across the college to increase and leverage diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Working Environment: Hybrid with two days in the office.
Salary Range: $90,000-$110,000 annually.
Job Responsibilities: Consultation and Relationship Management - 50% Serve as an HR and academic affairs team leader, managing programs and processes for CLA administration and multiple academic units. Solve problems and make recommendations on complex issues. Analyze information promptly. Build collaborative relationships. Provide oversight and recommendations on policy and procedure. Develop effective recruitment strategies. Consult on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Serve as HR liaison for search committees. Act as an equal opportunity officer and EOAA liaison. Manage annual HR processes. Advise on high-risk employment situations. Ensure legal compliance. Supervise HR staff. Employee and Labor Relations - 25% Advise and consult on performance and discipline issues. Meet with supervisors, staff, and faculty to investigate and recommend solutions for workplace behavior issues. Provide coaching and training related to performance management and discipline within the guidelines of various employee groups. Explain, interpret, and advise on employment laws, labor contracts, and University policies and procedures. Facilitate problem-solving and dispute resolution between employees and managers. Represent management in grievance processes. Collaborate with University offices, such as Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action, Office of the General Counsel, Office of Human Resources, and Disability Services, to resolve complex issues. Conduct investigations, prepare findings, and recommend outcomes related to policy violations, harassment, discrimination, and unprofessional behavior claims. Act as a resource to faculty and staff regarding terms and conditions of employment. Organizational Analysis and Development - 15% Partner with units to develop, plan, and implement organizational structures in response to programmatic needs or funding changes. Advise hiring units on hiring, terminations, compensation, and benefits. Identify the need for external consultation and recommend appropriate resources. Collaborate with the HR team to identify HR-related training needs. Design and conduct tailored training programs for CLA departments. Utilize resources from the University's Office of Human Resources to assist with training. Facilitate structured meetings as needed. Special Project and HRMS Reporting - 10% Actively participate in planning and implementing HR collegiate goals, including special projects, HRMS reporting, and faculty and staff recruitment processes. Manage collegiate annual processes, including outstanding service awards, professional and academic (P/A) promotions, professional development leaves, and multiple-year contracts. Required Qualifications:
BA/BS degree in human resources or related field plus six (6) years of human resources experience, including problem-solving, performance management, compensation, and investigations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in HR or related field.
Professional human resources credentials such as SHRM-CP/PHR, SHRM-SCP/SPHR.
Experience in human resources in higher education and/or the public sector.
Experience conducting employment and EOAA investigations and responding to complaints and grievances.
Supervisory experience.
Project management experience.
