THE ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT AND POSITION…
We are dividing our current Fiscal operations into two separate sections under the direction of the Deputy for Finance: A Finance Office, which will manage budgeting, payables, receivables and like functions. And a Comptroller's Office, which will handle accounting and reporting. The relationship between the Deputy for Finance, the Director of Finance, and the Comptroller is a critical partnership.
They will be required to refocus, reorient, and then maintain a high-functioning, strong customer service-oriented Finance function which is critical to meeting the needs of our large and diverse human services agency across all geographies where we serve. Both will be expected to work with Cayuga Centers' President/CEO to ensure that the Office's structure, processes, and practices consistently reflect current organizational needs, as well as finance and accounting best practices.
Under the supervision of the Comptroller, the Senior Financial Accountant maintains and administers the monthly general ledger and assists in the preparation of financial statements. The role analyzes and prepares reconciliations for various general ledger account balances. Will assist the Comptroller in preparing for Board Meetings, audits, budgets, period-end reports, and other projects as needed.
How you get to use your skills… Collect and analyze financial data, ensuring that all reporting is in compliance with GAAP reporting guidelines

Research accounting rules and regulations and make recommendations regarding company policy

Assist external auditors as needed

Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field

Rely on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly basis

Assist in budget preparation

Process data and prepare schedules for audits

Act as backup for Accounts Receivable

Provide technical assistance to program managers in the monitoring of site-specific budgets

Prepare all annual and quarterly reports to include CFR, SSOP, and report to OPwDD and Mental Health

Create journal entries to balance accounts and bank reconciliations

Oversee the creation, maintenance and reporting of budgets

Responsible for financial accounting, reporting, and budgeting

Schedule: Exempt Regular hours entail 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday

Must be flexible to meet program needs

Travel outside of work hours may be required

Experience and Skills:Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field

Requires 3 to 5 years experience performing accounting-related functions such as general ledger maintenance and complete month-end close

Knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting and reporting requirements

Understanding of accounting concepts such as prepaid, accruals and deferrals

Understanding of nonprofit allocation methods and administrative allocations

Experience with nonprofit accounting and government reporting forms strongly preferred

Valid NYS Driver's License preferred

Ability to travel to all agency locations as required
