Our work spans basic scientific studies through concept development and productization allowing us to transition our knowledge and prototypes to fulfill critical needs for end users.

This position will initially support ongoing research and engineering projects based on needs. As a part of a collaborative research team, a successful candidate will pursue their passions with the freedom to expand their work to their areas of interest and expertise. As a team, growth in these new and existing areas will further expand our capabilities while serving our customers and end users.

PRIMARY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Conduct cutting edge research and development projects in the field of acoustic science and technology with the intent of applying new technologies and techniques to difficult problems.

+ Develop novel sensing solutions to meet project deliverable requirements and customer needs with either internally developed technology or integrated with commercially available sensor technologies.

+ Support existing programs research programs, with the future opportunity to develop and execute your own plans to grow programs in your areas of interest and expertise.

+ Act as a technical resource for other engineers and scientists within the company.

+ Lead and participate in small teams of engineers and scientists to design, fabricate, assemble, and test enhanced hearing protection devices and/or full suite communication systems.

+ Author reports, design experiments, and conceive new technologies.

EDUCATION

+ Requires B.S. or higher in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, acoustics, physics, or a closely related field.

REQUIREMENTS

+ S. with 8+ years, M.S. with 6+ years, or Ph.D. with 3+ years.

+ Significant experience in at least two of the following fields: acoustical engineering, amplifier design, embedded programming, PCB design/fabrication

+ US Citizen

+ Currently hold or have the ability to obtain a security clearance.

+ On-site work at ARAs Littleton, Colorado facility

+ Periodic travel to other ARA offices, subcontractor sites, and customer locations

+ Demonstrated ability to work well within a team and independently.

The ideal candidate will possess one or more of the following skills:

+ Experience working with and supervising junior staff working with microelectronics to include selection of components, development of breadboard systems, and programming embedded or PC-connected control systems.

+ Experience performing and supervising junior staff performing prototyping through low-rate initial production (LRIP).

+ Experience working in Altium to create production-ready PCB designs.

+ Experience with setting up and performing measurements in a laboratory environment and leading more junior staff in the same.

+ Experience identifying risk areas/conceptual problems and stimulating team creative thinking to solve them.

+ Experience with methodical design & systematic problem-solving skills.

+ Experience performing contract/grant-based research and development relevant to National Defense applications.

+ Motivation to succeed in a cross-functional team spanning multiple disciplines to deliver results in a timely manner.

+ A strong record of written and verbal communication through reports, peer-reviewed publications, and/or conference presentations.

+ Demonstrated interest in leadership in areas such as: leading new research programs, development of new facilities, and being a mentor for other employees.
