This position is based out of the Nashville office working on a hybrid schedule with flexibility to work remotely.  About the Senior Counsel Upperline is looking for a Senior Counsel to support our General Counsel with the full scope of legal, and compliance affairs of the company. The Senior Counsel will work directly with the General Counsel in a fast-paced in-house environment to assist with legal and strategic business considerations and serve as head of compliance for the company, a role which will include proactive leadership of the company's compliance program, responding to compliance issues, researching and managing all litigation (employment, medical malpractice, healthcare regulatory, and general business). Candidates must be self-starters eager to tackle problems and tasks of all magnitudes, possess exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. Ideal candidates will have litigation, employment law or healthcare regulatory experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department where they have demonstrated the ability to provide company executives with legal advice and risk assessment in a competent and practical manner. Exposure to healthcare and value-based care is preferred. What You'll Do: Support the General Counsel in meeting the legal and compliance needs across all company departments, including Operations, HR, Finance, Business Development, Marketing, Real Estate and Tax to produce a high volume of output. Lead the company's compliance program and manage all compliance affairs for both the fee-for-service and value-based care sectors of the company; manage and expand the company's existing compliance program and initiatives including by drafting company policies, managing the compliance hotline, developing proactive compliance initiatives, responding to audits, and reporting compliance updates to the Board of Directors.  Coordinate all company litigation, including by developing strategy and assessing company goals; tasks will include assisting outside counsel in filing and answering complaints, drafting and responding to discovery requests, participating in mediation and trial, leading settlement discussions, and drafting settlement agreements. Respond to patient, employee and various other complaints, incidents and disputes as well as inquiries from government authorities. Provide counsel with respect to employee leave, termination, and disciplinary matters.   Research compliance-related legal questions (labor, provider licensure, scope of practice, Anti-Kickback, Stark, False Claims Act). Broad-ranging support to General Counsel on various bespoke tasks. Qualifications of the Senior Counsel: Active license to practice law in Tennessee. A minimum of 4 years of legal experience, either in a law firm, in-house legal department, or a combination thereof Values exceptional attention to detail and accuracy  Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-moving environment  Strong work ethic and demonstrated experience prioritizing, organizing and meeting deadlines   Excellent verbal and written communication skills  Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maturely interact across a broad spectrum of company departments, including multiple levels of management  BENEFITS

COMPENSATION
Compensation is commensurate to compensation for similar positions in the region and based on prior training and experience.
