WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR? We are looking for a Sr. Assistant General Counsel, Employment Law Americas, who will serve as an advisor and counselor to Human Resources and business managers on employment law issues. We need someone who can provide expert, principled, pragmatic, solution-focused and commercially relevant employment law advice. You must be an enterprise level thinker with a global perspective. Must have a flexible-future oriented mind set ready to provide informed advice and legal risk assessments in the best interests of the enterprise and in the face of ambiguity and a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You must have strong interpersonal skills and be a good listener and an excellent verbal and written communicator with all levels of the company.
What you will work on
As our Sr. Assistant General Counsel, Employment Law Americas, you will serve as a subject matter authority in all areas of federal and state employment laws, providing timely, practical and solution-focused legal advice to Human Resources teams, Employee Relations, business leaders and other business partners on a variety of employment law issues arising in both corporate and firstline segments of the business. For example, hiring, performance management, discipline, terminations, internal investigations, contingent worker issues, reasonable accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, and general employee risk management. You will also partner in selecting and handling outside counsel for employment litigation and will lead the process through resolution. Coordinate and supervise responses to administrative charges, demand letters and other potential disputes against the company through negotiation or mediation. You will also provide advice and counsel with regard to legal compliance issues impacting employees and assist in developing strategic plans for all employment-related matters, including but not limited to, policies, procedures, litigation and pre-litigation matters.
Who you will work with Members of Nikes Global Employment Law and Employee Relations team, reporting directly to Nikes Senior Director, Assistant General Counsel, Employment Law - Americas.
The work will concern employment law matters across the United States, Canada and Latin America. And, partner with other members of the Nike Office of General Counsel.
What you bring A Juris Doctorate degree from accredited law school and active state bar license in good standing, of at least one US State Bar and willingness to commit to membership in the Oregon State Bar.
Minimum 8 years of experience in employment law in a law firm and/or in-house with an emphasis on the following specialty areas: labor and employment-related litigation, administrative proceedings (state or federal), advice & counsel and compliance issues.
Excellent communication skillsable to influence at all of levels and across functions in a complex matrix organization
Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment and with a demanding case workload, and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations.
