Position Summary: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Accountant for the University Controller's Office. Reporting to the Senior Manager, in the University Controller's organization, this position analyzes and reviews financial data, and prepares financial statements and reports for both internal and external purposes. Additionally, provides resolutions to a diverse range of problems consistent with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the University Controller's Office, and consistent with a comprehensive understanding of accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ( GAAP ), applicable regulations, and university policies and procedures.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: Interprets, communicates, and implements accounting policies and practices to meet the needs of a diverse university client population Performs professional work requiring specialized to general knowledge in one or more fields of higher education accounting/finance and a solid understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations, and terminology. Prepares and analytically reviews financial statement data for the overall University, as well as the designated accounts, to ensure accuracy and propriety of financial data. Applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ( GAAP ), University Policies, and professional judgment when reviewing accounting transactions and ensures that all account balances are appropriate and explained. Maintains accountability over assigned general ledger accounts ensuring university reporting policies and procedures are appropriately applied in accordance with GAAP . Prepares a variety of financial reports, schedules and account analyses applying GAAP . Performs year-end closing responsibilities for assigned areas Works with auditors as well as university accounting personnel directly in responding to their inquiries during the audit of the financial statements. Assists with the annual preparation of the Annual Financial Statements, Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System ( IPEDS ) report by campus, Annual Component Financial Reporting ( ACFR ) and Middle State Surveys. Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices. Five years of related professional experience in a financial/accounting function with excellent communication skills and computer literacy. City: Piscataway

Equipment Utilized: Use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and ORACLE Cloud General Ledger (GL) to prepare and submit journal entries and financial reports. Use of ORACLE Cloud GL and subledger applications, and EPRCS as well as Rutgers reporting tools (Smart View and Tableau) to extract information from the financial data warehouse to be used in preparation of financial reports and disclosures. Analysis of information and processing of correcting journal entries using Excel Templates and the Oracle Base Application.
