The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a non-profit membership organization with its National Headquarters located near the White House, is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join our team.
Our full time Senior Accountant will perform a full range of analytical accounting, with a focus on monthly closing, reconciliation, budget, taxes, and general processing.
We are looking for a professional who demonstrates a s trong sense of ownership, has the ability to execute to keep projects moving to meet internal and external deadlines, and who is highly adaptable with strong problem-solving ability.
Position Responsibilities: Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure that the general ledger is maintained in accordance with GAAP. Maintain, reconcile, and record all activity related to DAR's semi-annual release of net assets. Maintain, reconcile, and record all transfers between various funds. Prepares assigned schedules as it relates to DAR's annual independent audit and annual budget. Assists the Controller in the preparation of annual tax filings for the Federal government (IRS Form 990 and 990-T) and DC tax returns. Acts as a backup as it relates to processing bi-weekly payroll and weekly check requests. Prepares schedules for various departmental inventory counts. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting and a minimum of four years' experience in an accounting department or in a public accounting firm. Familiarity with a non-profit environment is preferred. CPA candidate or CPA preferred. Must demonstrate advanced proficiency with one or more computerized accounting software packages. Advanced proficiency with Excel and intermediate proficiency in Word. High degree of tact and diplomacy and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Benefits: Hiring annual salary range in the low $60,'s to mid $70's , with the final determination based upon the candidate's overall experience.
