Social studies is the integrated study of the social sciences and humanities to promote civic competence. Providing coordinated, systematic study drawing upon such disciplines as anthropology, archaeology, economics, geography, history, law, philosophy, political science, psychology, and sociology, among others. The primary purpose of social studies is to help young people develop the ability to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse society.
Social Studies Teacher Responsibilities: Planning and presenting lessons to facilitate students' understanding and application of science concepts and skills; Preparing and distributing learning material such as notes, assignments, and quizzes; Sourcing the resources and supplies needed for lessons; Ensuring that the classroom remains safe and conducive to learning; Grading assignments and quizzes in a timely manner; Invigilating quizzes and final examinations; Documenting and reporting on students' progress; Attending meetings with parents and staff; Benefits Package: Paid Time Off = 7 days annually Offering: Health, Dental, Vision, Short/long-term Disability, and Life Retirement: PERA (Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association) with 401K Option Qualifications: Valid Colorado teaching license with endorsement in secondary social studies OR 36 social studies credit hours OR Passed PRAXIS social studies exam ; Specific knowledge of subject assigned; Strong written and oral communication skills; Previous teaching experience preferred or other work with children.
