This is a unique collaboration where scientists from academia and industry work together in interdisciplinary teams to identify and validate molecular targets for cardiovascular diseases, with the goal of advancing novel therapeutics to the clinic to benefit patients.We are looking for a researcher with experience using hiPS cell technologies and/or primary cell cultures to take initiative in development of complex disease-modeling cellular assays. Our mission is to harvest this information through morphological profiling and integrate it with human genetics and snRNA sequencing data to increase our mechanistic understanding of disease and uncover novel therapies. Specifically, the candidate will design and conduct experimental research studies at the bench and contribute to target identification efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated scientist interested in exploring the early stages of drug development in a vibrant and collaborative atmosphere.YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe primary responsibilities of thisScientist Irole are to:Lead novel target proposals and experimental validation;Develop research plans for executing strategy, operate and maintain equipment, and perform laboratory work, with complete independence;Contribute to maintenance of human induced pluripotent stem cell cultures (hiPSC) and differentiation of cells towards cardiomyocytes;Prepare and update experimental protocols;Aid in the fabrication of engineered systems involving iPS cells;Independently perform data analysis and effectively interpret results;Lead publication of results, prepare reports and presentations at both internal and external forums;Collaborate effectively with colleagues and interdisciplinary teams both at the Broad Institute and Bayer;Assess external targets and programs to understand the competitive landscape and identify potential opportunities for collaboration.WHO YOU AREYour success will be driven by your demonstration of our life values, more specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:Required Qualifications:PhD in Biology (Cellular, Molecular or Developmental Biology), Biochemistry or related life science field;Hands-on experience ES/iPS cells and cardiomyocyte differentiation protocols;Experience in cellular assay development and proficiency with standard assay formats in primary and cultured cells (e.g. flow cytometry, imaging, luminescence-/fluorescence-based cellular readouts, immunohistochemistry);Expertise in standard molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology assays;Track record of working on complex problems, and ability to integrate data from multiple disciplines;Strong interpersonal, influencing, and collaboration skills to work in a team oriented, matrix environment, and the ability to work through conflicts;Demonstrate outstanding personal initiative, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team;Ability to adapt to and effectively manage changes in a fast paced and dynamic environment;A passion for science and sense of urgency to find new therapies for patients.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with primary cell culture of cardiac or vascular origin;Experience in conducting metabolism assays and cell editing using CRISPR;Post-Doc experience (industry or academia).#LIUSYOUR APPLICATIONBayer offers a wide variety of competitive compensation and benefits programs.
