PRIMARY FUNCTION: To provide comprehensive school health services for all students and maintain student health records. RELATIONSHIP WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION:
New London Public Schools' Registered Nurses will act as members of the interdisciplinary team in planning and implementing the health/therapeutic/educational programs of the students. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This description of Substitute School Nurse is for identification and administrative purposes only. It is not intended to be a complete statement of all duties, which may be assigned or adjusted by the Superintendent of Schools according to varying needs. In the absence of the School Nurse, provide support for health care, emergency protocols, and transportation and classroom adaptations for students with special health care needs in coordination with classroom teachers and special education supervisors. Maintain accurate records using designated student information systems to ensure continuity and accountability of the school health program Maintain current health records and emergency medical information on all students as required by state regulations. Adhere to existing individual nursing care plans to meet the cultural, educational, emotional, mental, physical, and social needs of students. Ensure compliance with IEPs by having medically necessary equipment available as needed. Adhere to state regulations regarding proper administration and storage of student medication. Follow existing policies and procedures to ensure optimum health of all staff and students. Provide vaccinations to staff as needed. In the absence of the School Nurse, collaborate with agencies within and outside of the community to ensure continuity of service and care for students and families. Lift and/or restrain students as necessary according to training and district protocols. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Current Connecticut RN License Academic requirements as stated in the Connecticut Education Regulations Sec.10-212-2 Active CPR/BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid Certification PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bilingual (English and Spanish) One-year appropriate clinical experience within the past three years Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing School Nurse certification PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Annually by Supervisor of School Nurses SALARY: The workday is 7 hours (6.5 hours of work and .5 hour lunch) DATE: February 25, 2024
