Edison High School Part-time School Counselor Job Description About Edison High School 
Edison High School exists to serve a neurodiverse student population. Students who attend Edison typically have learning differences such as Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and/or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) in reading, writing or math. Other diagnoses among our student population include Executive Functioning Challenges, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Visual and Auditory Processing Disorders, and Nonverbal Learning Disorder. 
Edison High School is located on the campus of Jesuit High School. Though an independent school, there is a collaborative relationship between the two schools. Many Edison students attend classes at Jesuit and many Jesuit students take classes at Edison.
Education and Experience:
Masters Degree in School Counseling, Mental Health, Social Work or Special Education. Desire and ability to work with high school students with diagnosed learning differences, diverse backgrounds, and levels of ability toward accomplishing their personal and academic goals. Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.  Possible configurations:
This is a 15-hour per week position. We will partner with qualified candidates to think through different potential scheduling configurations, with a particular focus on the distinct responsibilities and tasks that would accompany each schedule. The part-time responsibilities will include some combination of the job responsibilities outlined below. General School Counselor Job Responsibilities:
Advises and counsels students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional issues. Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic and social-emotional matters. Teaches classes and provides counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information, and offers workshops/seminars for parents. Consults, facilitates, and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic, educational, and social-emotional matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations and emotional support plans. Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student's academic and educational needs and abilities. Assists students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures. Provides brief and solution-focused counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students to behavioral health specialists. Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with behavioral health specialists on developing and implementing student supports. Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events. Creates and distributes ASCA aligned SEL curriculum for use by school advisors in weekly schoolwide advisory class  Supports schoolwide Restorative Justice initiatives  Classification and compensation:
This is a 15-hour per week salaried, non-exempt position. Scheduling details are to be mutually agreed upon between the counselor and the principal. Compensation for this position will be determined in accordance with our established counselor and teacher payscale. Staff members who are 21 or older can participate in our 401(k). After one year of employment, Edison High School will contribute 6% of the part-time counselor's salary each payroll period, regardless of the employee's personal contribution.
