Redpath USA Corporation a premier full-service underground mining contractor is in search of a Underground Mine Safety Supervisor to join our project at the Kennecott Copper Project near Salt Lake City, Utah.Job Description:Project: Kennecott Utah Copper ProjectLocation:Bingham/Salt Lake City AreaCompensation:Redpath USA Corporation offers competitive and comprehensive wages and benefits.Conditions of Employment:Acceptable results relating to mandatory drug test, background check, medical physical and compliance with Redpath health and safety requirements.Job Summary:The Safety Supervisor will interface with MSHA and State Mine Inspectors regarding compliance with all aspects of health and safety under the direction of the Safety Superintendent. This position will provide leadership and direction of the day-to-day safety requirements in the surface and underground mining operations for Redpath USA Corporation (RUSAC) Contracted Projects. The Safety Supervisor will be responsible for supporting operations and providing guidance on the implementation of all RUSAC safety plans, and all applicable federal and state regulations, to facilitate Redpath's Safety- First, Last and Always practices.Duties and Responsibilities:Ensures site compliance with Redpath standards, MSHA standards, ATF regulations, applicable state regulation and client requirements. Participate in the Site Fatality Prevention program.Communicate, coach, and assist the field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are understood and met.Update, communicate and maintain MSHA training plans.Review and evaluate all MSHA citations. Assist Site leadership with challenging citations as needed through the MSHA litigation process.Conducts investigations relating to serious accidents or serious injuries, coordinates with site leadership, MSHA and client as needed during these situations. Facilitate & train personnel in Incident Investigations for basic / root cause analysis.Supporting employees and supervisors in conducting risk assessments.Develop and review all HSE reports. Ensures all departments are aware of obligations with respect to compliance to legislative and client requirements, and conditions of the project contract and licenses.Provide support to the project by maintaining a constant visible presence to the field performing underground site visits to the entire project area of responsibility.Briefs project leadership team and supervision of any new or conflictive legislative matters that could impact the project.Manages Project Safety Management Plan (SMP) for the project to ensure a safe work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.Ensure all known incidents are reported immediately.Ensure incident corrective actions are followed up and completed in a timely manner. Review safety obligations of the clients and ensure they are carried out as per the terms of the contract, and communicated to all, employees, leadership, etc.Conducts RSP, training for new Redpath supervisors.Investigating workplace situations.Addresses safety-related complaints from employees.Takes disciplinary actions for employees violations.Responsible for ensuring and keeping work areas safe and free of hazards, through monitoring day to day operations and the guidance of the safety team, and site supervisors.Ensures Personal Protective Equipment is being used and properly maintained.Ensure new employees are orientated to the project underground operations, and all required documentation is completed accurately.Must be able to comprehend and provide written and verbal instructions as required to perform duties in an efficient manner.Ensure safety boards are maintained with notices including but not limited to: Health and Safety Policy, Inspections and Audit results, Project Hazard Assessment, Location of First Aiders etc. Ensure new employees are orientated in surface and underground operations, and all required documentation is completed accurately and maintained.Comply with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures. Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information. Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath's Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver's License and acceptable driving record.Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations. Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Education:Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred.AAS Occupational Development (Certified) preferred.Mine Safety Professional (CMSP) preferred.Mine Rescue Trainer MSHA Instructor Surface and Underground.Special Investigation Training.Work Experience:5 years of Health and Safety experience, preferably in a underground mining environment.Experience in Mine Inspection Techniques(including Health Sampling).Proven accident investigation experience.Trained in all aspects of Surface and Underground mining.Working Conditions, Physical and Mental Demands:Site office based, requiring work in other areas on the site including surface and underground work areas. Outside of office environment will experience exposure to factors such as temperature variations/extremes, fumes, moving machinery, humidity, toxic materials, dust, equipment noise and noticeable risk in surface and underground mining operations. Site work requires physical activity such as walking on uneven ground, climbing, and wearing additional personal protective equipment.Mental and physical effort to deal with multiple deadlines, accuracy, multi-tasking, problem solving, presenting information to a group. Requires a high level of alertness to detect and report various hazards.Sitting for long periods of time.Working on a computer for long periods of time.Must have the ability to remain focused and attentive to deal with several distractions.Able to retain detailed information.Must be able to provide proof of identity and legal right to work in the United States at time of hire.
