Job Purposes:: The RSP Compliance Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all research and teaching activities involving animal subjects, human subjects or biological materials are conducted safely, ethically, and in compliance with Federal, State, and institutional policies.
Required Qualifications:: Bachelor's degree plus two years of administrative support experience in a research compliance area such as animal subjects (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee ( IACUC ), Human Subjects (Institutional Review Board ( IRB ), Institutional Biosafety (Institutional Biosafety Committee ( IBC ), Environmental Health and Safety ( EHS ) or experience working with animals in a research, teaching environment or related field. Ability to understand and interpret federal laws and regulations. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organization skills. Ability to manage timelines and multiple priorities. Capable of working independently. Excellent interpersonal skills. This position involves interacting with employees, customers, consultants, and/or vendors at all levels of the organization. Preferred Qualifications:: Knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to laboratory animal welfare compliance and institutional biosafety regulations. Experience with electronic research administration software such as Cayuse. Certified Professional in IACUC Administration ( CPIA ). Essential Functions and percent of time:: 40%:
Responsible for providing administrative support to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee ( IACUC ) and Institutional Biosafety Committee ( IBC ) and ensure that the IACUC's and IBC's work is accomplished in a timely manner. Acts as a liaison between the IACUC or IBC and the OVPRI . Works closely with the IACUC Chair, Director of Laboratory Animals Resources ( LAR ), IBC Chair and the Institutional Biosafety Officer ( BSO ). Work to ensure that the university's research activities involving animals, recombinant and synthetic nucleic acid molecules, and biohazards are registered with the IACUC or IBC and conducted in compliance with institutional standard operating procedures and federal, state, and local regulations including OLAW , USDA , OSHA , and The Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant and Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules.
20%: Attend all IACUC and IBC meetings; records notes resulting from discussion to inform required revisions to protocols and policies. Serves as a regulatory and policy expert on relevant aspects of animal research and institutional biosafety. Ensures that all records are secured and properly archived, keeps abreast of changes in regulations, maintains policy documents and Standard Operating Procedures, submits required reports to federal regulatory agencies, communicates regularly with researchers, committee members and veterinary staff.
Conducts pre-reviews of submitted IACUC and IBC research submissions and assists investigators and their support staff.
10%: Coordinate the IACUC semiannual program review and facility inspection. Schedule the inspection of all animal housing and use areas involving the key constituents in LAR , IACUC , EHS , committee members, etc. Manage the semiannual program review. Assist with documenting and presenting findings to the committee. Prepare the reports to the Institutional Official. Ensure all findings and deficiencies have a corrective action plan and timeline for correction that is communication to stakeholders in a timely manner. Assist Director of Laboratory Animal Resources to document implementation of all corrective actions. Participate in internal audit of IACUC and IBC use protocols. Participate and assist in all activities related to Post Approval Monitoring including scheduling, coordination and documentation and ensure follow-up on all Post Approval Monitoring activities. Communicate deficiencies to investigators and supports laboratories and other parties (e.g., LAR or EHS ) with achieving compliance by the assigned deadlines. Produce reports of protocols under review and status of reviews; runs targeted reports at the request of the LAR or EHS Director to facilitate regulatory compliance and reporting.
