Position Type: Full-time (Graveyard Shift, Some Weekends Required)
About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Route Supervisor to join our team. The Route Supervisor will be responsible for supervising the daily/nightly service delivery to all customers, ensuring safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of contracted services. The ideal candidate will uphold our core values and apply principles of positive leadership in the supervision of drivers.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supervision and Leadership:
* As the Route Supervisor, you will supervise drivers and oversee daily operations, ensuring pre and post-trip inspections are conducted.
* Communicate key service points, safety, and equipment issues to drivers as the Route Supervisor.
* Foster a team environment and reinforce company core values in your role as Route Supervisor.
* Safety and Compliance:
* Establish and maintain a clean, safe work environment as the Route Supervisor.
* Ensure compliance with company policies and safety guidelines as the Route Supervisor.
* Conduct safety meetings and reinforce daily safe work practices as part of the Route Supervisor duties.
* Routing and Operations:
* Assist in routing new service starts and scheduling service intervals as the Route Supervisor.
* Review daily productivity reports and adjust routes as needed in your capacity as Route Supervisor.
* Respond to dispatch calls and address customer issues promptly as the Route Supervisor.
* Perform route observations to ensure safety procedures are followed in your role as Route Supervisor.
* Driver Support:
* Monitor driver's pre-trip inspections and address findings as the Route Supervisor.
* Ensure trucks are in good condition and labeled properly as the Route Supervisor.
* Train new employees and provide ongoing support to drivers as the Route Supervisor.
* Conduct performance evaluations and disciplinary actions as needed in your role as Route Supervisor.
* Administrative Tasks:
* Complete accident and injury reports as the Route Supervisor.
* Monitor driver time, attendance, and compliance with DOT hours of service as the Route Supervisor.
* Drive and assist on routes to cover shortages and support drivers behind schedule in your capacity as Route Supervisor.
Qualifications:
* High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in transportation management, logistics, or solid/liquid waste industry.
* Associate's Degree or minimum of 2 years of experience in transportation logistics or solid waste operations.
* Knowledge of Smith System and/or Decision Driving principles.
* Basic computer skills and general knowledge of Microsoft applications.
* Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
* Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, ANSI, and related federal, state, and local regulations.
* Valid class A or B commercial driver's license (or ability to obtain one within 3 months of hire).
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Proven customer service skills.
* Ability to work independently, make decisions, and resolve problems.
* Flexible schedule availability, including weekends and on-call for operational issues.
* Positive attitude towards staff and customers.
* Knowledge of first aid techniques is helpful.
Physical Requirements:
* Ability to work outside most of the workday, driving and working with drivers/helpers.
* Physical effort in handling objects up to 50 pounds.
* Exposure to physical environment risks such as dirt, odors, noise, and weather extremes.
