Summary
The job of a sales manager is to hire and supervise sales staff and manage sales performance. The sales manager plays an important role in the productivity and profitability of the store. The sales manager reports directly to the store manager and supervises all retail sales associates, major accounts staff and the sales assistant. Duties Provide customer service by greeting and assisting customers and responding to customer inquiries and complaints. Monitor sales activities to ensure that customers receive satisfactory service and quality goods. Review, analyze and interpret sales reports for the appropriate timeframe. Conduct regular sales meetings. Engage in a collaborative goal setting process and help sales staff maintain these goals. Measure, track, analyze, and interpret in-store and outside sales performance by tracking progress toward personal and store-level sales goals. Enforce safety, health, and security rules. Manage the sales floor activity and profitability by reviewing product data and managing merchandise. Hire, train, and evaluate personnel in sales or marketing establishments, promoting or firing workers when appropriate. Schedule one-on-one meetings with individual sales professionals who meet performance standard/goals for the month. Establish and implement policies, goals, objectives, and procedures for their department. Instruct staff on how to handle difficult and complicated sales. Formulate pricing policies for merchandise, according to profitability requirements. Examine merchandise to ensure that it is correctly priced and displayed and that it functions as advertised. Plan and prepare work schedules and keep records of employees' work schedules. Establish a goal with the Store Manager for the rewards or recognition program. Supervise Sales Assistant/Estimator Plan and coordinate advertising campaigns and sales promotions and prepare merchandise displays and advertising copy. Confer with company officials to develop methods and procedures to increase sales, expand markets, and promote business. Establish credit policies and operating procedures. Plan budgets and authorize payments and merchandise returns. Requirements Greet customers, patrons, or visitors. Answer customer questions about goods or services. Monitor sales activities. Assign duties or work schedules to employees. Supervise sales or support personnel. Monitor inventories of products or materials. Maintain records of sales or other business transactions.
