Position: Retail Associate- part time
Reports to: Retail Shift Supervisor, Retail Store Manager
Objectives: Work as part of a cohesive, supportive team to facilitate the sale of quality used goods to community, while offering excellent customer and donor service. Assist in building and maintaining a positive workplace environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: Sorting and Pricing Sort donations for immediate sale, storage, recycling, or waste. Price donations fairly and consistently, in accordance with LISTEN pricing policies.
Merchandising and Display Maintain the store in a safe, clean, and neat manner. Ensure all items in the sales area are available for immediate sale. Display merchandise clearly and attractively. Plan for special sales by reserving inventory and designing merchandise displays. Customer Sales and Service Welcome shoppers. Offer prompt and courteous assistance to customers. Accurately operate cash register and provide sales receipts to customers. Donor and Volunteer Relations Greet, thank and assist donors, bringing in donations as needed. Provide donors with tax receipts for their charitable contributions. Provide clear and consistent information to the public about donating to LISTEN. Provide support and cooperation to volunteers to make the best use of their time and talents for LISTEN. Facilities, Safety and Security Follow store procedures regarding cash handling, inventory control, safety, and security. Provide a clean, safe, and accessible store site for customers and staff by performing cleaning duties throughout the shift. Client Service and Referral Assist clients with vouchers by showing voucher-eligible merchandise, answering questions and processing vouchers tactfully. Maintain client confidentiality. Provide information regarding LISTEN services as needed. Other Participate in staff meetings and training. Other duties at the discretion of the Retail Store Manager and Retail Director. Minimum Requirements High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred. Reliable transportation to/from work required. Retail experience helpful. Excellent customer service skills. Respect for and the ability to maintain client confidentiality. Responsible, respectful approach to the job and the team. Ability to perform physically demanding work, including heavy lifting. Willingness to provide information for background check processing. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Experience: Previous experience working in retail and customer service is preferred.
Cognitive Skills: Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers and donors. The employee is frequently required to use written communication and is occasionally required to use math skills. Ability to diplomatically deal with difficult situations and people, while exhibiting a consistent level of professionalism.
Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to be on their feet, walking and standing. The employee is frequently required to reach, handle (hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hand or hands), finger (picking, pinching, fine manipulation). The employee is occasionally required to bend, squat, climb stairs, push, and pull. The employee is rarely required to crouch, kneel, crawl, balance, twist, stretch and sit. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move between 25-50lbs and minimally required to lift and/or move between 50-100+lbs.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be continuously exposed to noise and will occasionally be exposed to fumes (cleaning solutions) and dust (from sweeping and dusting). The employee will also experience various seasonal temperatures while working with donors bringing their donations from outside to inside the sorting area. The sorting area has some environmental control but is exposed to outside temperatures when doors are open.
