JOB DESCRIPTION :
The Respiratory Clinical Specialist (RCS) is the clinical lead for respiratory care services with goals to enhance clinical practice and improve the overall quality of care. In addition, the Respiratory Clinical Specialist assumes an active leadership role under the supervision of senior departmental leadership, in the development of Respiratory Care Services. The Respiratory Clinical Specialist leads the process of continuing quality improvement and utilizes specialized knowledge and skills that focuses on patient centered care. Demonstrates mastery in the knowledge and skills of all theories and practices in the field of Respiratory Care. Assists with education of staff (i.e., Respiratory Care Practitioners, Nurses, Physicians, etc.) on new equipment, guidelines and clinical standards. Provides regular quality and data analysis and reviews high & low risk frequency procedures. Shares expertise and knowledge through formal and informal publications, presentations, and community activities. Demonstrates motivation, discipline, and accountability with research and QI projects. Develops and implements Respiratory Care Practitioner driven protocols. Improves and updates the Respiratory Care Services guidelines for patient care, as indicated by evidence-based practice. Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of clinical and scientific basis and effects of respiratory care procedures, equipment, and medications. Develops and implements action plans to achieve department goals. Ensures operating efficiencies and the provision of quality services for internal and external stakeholders. Investigates methods and processes to improve performance, quality, and patient care.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Currently licensed as an active Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Georgia. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential by the National Board of Respiratory Care. BLS Certification Required. ACLS Certification Required. Minimum of 4 years of experience in the respiratory field preferably at an academic medical center. Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated quality and process improvement experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care or related science preferred. ACCS credential highly preferred. Masters' Degree in related subject preferred. SALARY RANGE: $33.81 - $60.04 The grade and salary of the position are based on specific criteria met within the qualifications of each levels relevant experience, skills, performance and internal equity. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
