Surgical Procedures - 60%
* Performslarge animal surgical preparations, surgery, and necropsy. To include, but not limited to: sedation, intubation, cut down or percutaneousaccess to large vessels, fluoroscopic catheterization, electrocautery incision, surgical entry into body cavities, csf collection, cardiacstent placement, and advanced imaging techniques for both sterile and non-sterile procedures.
* Monitors animal vitals (i.e. heart rate,respiratory rate, blood pressure) before, during and after surgery and meticulously completes surgical monitoring records -Responsible forevaluating, monitoring, and responding to conditions as they arise before, during and after surgery; i.e. depth of anesthesia, fluid orpharmaceutical administration, drawing blood or urine samples
* Responsible for the safety and welfare of the animal at all times-Operates hemodynamic software, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and imaging equipment in support of procedures
* Trains APIC staff, PrincipleInvestigators, and Principle Investigator staff in surgical techniques and safe animal handling
Study Management Assistance -20%
* Professionally communicates with Principle Investigators and their staff
* Professionally communicates and collaborates withAPIC staff -Provides study design input for surgical techniques to Principle Investigators
* Writes and maintains standard operatingprocedures and laboratory safety procedures -Writes protocols for IACUC submission and both GLP and non-GLP study documentation
* Keepsmeticulously detailed records of all experiments and procedures -Ensures lab users are compliant with safety regulations and facilityspecific protocols
* Oversees use of laboratory equipment, training of personnel, and maintaining equipment as needed
* Ensuresresearch is conducted according to IACUC and GLP regulations
* -Reviews scientific literature
Laboratory Maintenance-20%
* Preparessurgical suites for procedures, including setting up instruments and stocking study-specific supplies
* Maintains inventory of suppliesand orders items as necessary -Responsible for packing and sterilizing instruments for procedures
* Maintains linen and scrub stock
*Responsible for upkeep of the facility -Responsible for tracking and performing PM's on allequipment Qualifications
All required qualifications must be documented on applicationmaterials
Required Qualifications:
* BA/BS and 2 years of experience or a combination of related education and workexperience to equal six years in a medical, preclinical, or related veterinary field (Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, Biology,Zoology)
* Must be willing to work a flexible work week:
o APIC's core hours are 6:30AM-4:30PM Monday-Friday
o Periodicevening, weekend and holiday hours
o Hours will not exceed 40/week
o Occasional work from home
* Coordinates with APIC LabManager to develop research protocols for IACUC submission.
* Collects data and tissue for analysis by Principle Investigators.
* Mustbe able to lift 50 lbs. by oneself, must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods
Preferred Qualifications:
* Strongproblem solving skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team
* CVT, ALAT certification or knowledge of animal handling and care
*Experience in IACUC approved animal surgical procedures including anesthesia, intubation, sterile techniques, and catheterization forarterial and venous access
