Job Duties:
This position has the responsibility of conducting major research projects and the coordination of analyses, evaluation and reporting on the progress on projects. Help coordinate large research projects or several smaller projects and prepare work and equipment use schedules. The position will assign and review work and monitor data collection and documentation, such as laboratory notebooks and computer data.
50% effort: This position will supervise and train full-time laboratory staff. In addition, the position will conduct laboratory experiments and perform management responsibilities in a dynamic research laboratory. Recent representative publications include: Das S. et al. The position will be responsible for the oversight, operation and maintenance of equipment, developing and implementing protocols, data management and analysis, and the preparation of data for manuscripts and grants. In addition, the position will be responsible for ensuring lab organization, safety, evaluating and purchasing equipment and supplies, recognizing and resolving problems. Controls and evaluates expenditure of research funds under the general direction of principal investigators. Assure compliance with Drug Enforcement Agency, MBP, IACUC, approved research protocols, etc.
50% effort: Duties include conducting molecular and cellular biological experiments including cell culture, protein extraction, cell proliferation assay, RNA/DNA extraction and purification, cloning, PCR, qRT- PCR, SDS-PAGE, immunohistochemistry and ELISA assays. Must maintain a detailed notebook, type results, reports, and/or enter preliminary results including making case specific comments pertaining to quality of specimens and/or interpretation of results. Required qualifications: (Must be documented in application materials)
• A Master's Degree in biological science and 2 years of related experiences or Ba/BS and 4 years of related experiences.
• The Candidate must have prior research experience in molecular biology and in sterile cell culture techniques.
• Strong problem solving skills are also required and the ability to maintain responsibility for multiple projects simultaneously is essential.
• The Candidate must have the ability to read, interpret, and carefully follow experimental protocols.
• Basic computer skills are necessary (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with willingness to learn advanced software related to specific research activities.
• Experience conducting general molecular cell biological techniques including maintaining cell in culture, protein extraction, cell proliferation assay, RNA/DNA extraction and purification, cloning, PCR, qRT- PCR, SDS-PAGE, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA assays. Preferred qualifications:
• The Candidate should be a highly motivated, energetic, service-oriented person with the ability to work with research investigators including students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and research associates in the preparation of research proposals, protocols, abstracts and manuscripts.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed to interact professionally and effectively and to accurately document research procedures.
