Full job description Scheduled Hours 37.5 Position Summary Primary responsibilities of the Micro/Nanofabrication Research Specialist are to develop, maintain, and upgrade the specialized fabrication recipes and techniques of the WU IMSE Cleanroom facility. This comprises three primary integrated workloads: (1) equipment installation, maintenance, and calibration; (2) developing, testing, and approving Standard Operating Procedures; (3) training and advising users in use of Cleanroom facilities and SOPs. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities Conduct periodic and scheduled maintenance and safety checks of equipment. Anticipate and manage equipment downtime and work with vendors to restore operation. Perform regular calibration checks. Oversee behind-wall cleanroom facilities. Assure compliance of equipment with established safety procedures. Maintain required documentation on both laboratory facility and equipment. Train, advise, and supervise users on proper procedures for using micro and nano fabrication equipment in cleanroom facility. Assure user compliance with established safety procedures. Create, maintain, modify, and calibrate processes of record (Standard Operating Procedures). Advise users on new process development as needed. Maintain inventory and re-stock consumables, manage/dispose of hazardous waste. Perform fee-for-service fabrication. Coordinate and work with other IMSE personnel on cleanroom website content, seminars, workshops, outreach and other events. Perform other duties as assigned Preferred Qualifications PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering with micro/nanofabrication laboratory experience during degree and one to two years of relevant experience beyond degree; Master's in Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering with four to five years of experience in industrial or research micro/nanofabrication facility. Familiarity and experience with high vacuum technology and equipment operating at moderate to high voltages. Experience with electrical and plumbing infrastructure. Skill in handling and use of wet chemistry: acids, bases, solvents. Strong problem solving and decision-making capabilities. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, to work independently and as a team member, and to maintain complete and organized records and reports. Demonstrated ability as a self-starter with strong critical thinking and attention to detail. Ability to train others to use equipment and desire to work in lab research environment. Some knowledge of website maintenance. Required Qualifications Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering with three plus years of experience in industrial or research micro/nanofabrication facility, or Bachelor's degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering with five plus years of experience in industrial or research micro/nanofabrication facility.
Grade R11 Salary Range $54,100.00 - $98,100.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
