Position Summary: The Research Room Manager in the Research & Instructional Services Department of the Louis Round Wilson Special Collections Library provides supervision of the special collections research room. Primary duties are: management of research room services and security; management of internal and external circulation of special collections material, including interlibrary loan and campus-based document delivery; participation in the analysis, development, and implementation of research room policies; supervision of work assigned to student employees; reference services to library patrons in person, on the phone, via email, and using online chat; instruction in the use of and troubleshooting of library equipment and software, including microfilm reader/printer/scanners and scanners; communication with and training of non-departmental staff; compilation and analysis of library statistics; and other duties as assigned for the benefit of the library and its patrons.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: The successful candidate must have library public service experience and the customer service skills necessary to work effectively with a wide range of patrons. They must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate must be able to prioritize tasks effectively, manage time and meet deadlines, and perform complex tasks with a high degree of accuracy and minimal direct supervision. They must also be flexible, self-motivated, willing to learn new skills, able to work well with a wide variety of staff and patrons, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. They must also be able to adapt to changing user needs in a dynamic, service-oriented environment; have an aptitude for working with a high volume of detailed information and problem-solving; be able to lead and work collaboratively in a team environment; demonstrate the flexibility and ability to shift priorities quickly; must have experience working with spreadsheet, database, and library management software. The selected candidate must show dependability in regularly meeting the work schedule.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Prior experience working in a reference or public services position, especially in a special collections library or archive. Working knowledge of library-oriented software, especially Atlas System's ILLiad interlibrary loan and Aeon special collections management software, or other integrated library systems.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements: Position may involve lifting boxes weighing up to 40 pounds with or without accommodations.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities: This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
