Description:
The University of Pikeville and Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) is seeking a Research Laboratory Assistant. KYCOM is ranked #2 by US News and World Report in medical schools with the most graduates practicing in rural areas and #2 in medical schools with the most graduates practicing primary care. With nearly 550 students, faculty and staff are committed to teaching and learning, innovation, and the success of medical education.
This full-time position is under the direct supervision of the Associate Dean for Biomedical Sciences. The Research Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting faculty in research, ordering and stocking laboratory supplies, maintaining laboratory equipment, cleaning glassware, and performing and assisting with all duties/responsibilities as assigned/needed by the Associate Dean for Biomedical Sciences.
Responsibilities:
* Assist with testing and calibrating lab equipment in preparation for specific tasks.
* Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced.
* Test, monitor, and keep detailed logs of the experiments, as needed.
* Order, receive, and inventory general use laboratory materials as needed.
* Assist in performing assigned laboratory tasks without constant supervision.
* Prepare general use reagents according to protocol.
* Assist in the development and implementation of experiments.
* Use complex laboratory machinery and computer programs to conduct tests.
* Carry out routine tasks accurately and follow strict methodologies to carry out analyses.
* Keep up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments.
* Ensure the smooth and uninterrupted functionality of laboratory facilities.
* Follow all University policies and procedures to ensure product integrity and quality control.
* Provide administrative assistance.
* Other duties as assigned.
Education/Skill Requirements:
* Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
* Previous research laboratory experience preferred.
* Must have excellent organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills.
* Must demonstrate ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards.
Relationships:
Position requires daily professional contact with faculty, staff, supervisor, campus departments, and students. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact.
