Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary A full-time position that performs and oversees research projects or laboratory processes. Oversees other personnel and equipment.


The successful candidate will be able to direct/coordinate lab business independently, and will be expected to design and implement experiments, analyze data, and troubleshoot as needed. Daily tasks are highly variable, and require the supervisor to be involved in/aware of many projects, people, and developing directions in the assigned lab. This position requires extensive communication with individuals outside the lab such as the accounting department, HR, IACUC, and DCM staff as well as communications with sales reps from companies from which supplies are purchased. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities Performs laboratory administrative functions such as scheduling, purchasing and establishing record keeping systems. Maintains lab health and safety compliance and orders laboratory supplies necessary for laboratory operation. Does routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and carries out or supervises repairs when needed. Manages critical database updating to ensure accuracy and completeness. Determines when and what research supplies to order at best prices. Maintains and updates essential documents (e.g., IACUC and IBC protocols), amends when necessary as well as maintains compliance with safety procedures and required documentation in the lab. Assist PI with conception, design, and execution of in vivo and ex vivo experiments and assays as outlined by the supervisor. Primary duty is to design experiments, master and complete complex surgical techniques and approaches, and master and complete complex micro-electronic fabrication. All scientific work will involve data collection and analyses. Supervises laboratory staff assigned, assuring appropriate study procedures, review of staff work, explaining policies and procedures and screening of new employees. Develops procedure manuals and operational/technical guidelines for lab studies. Participates in lab study processes, maintaining records and preparing reports as required. Researches and recommends new methods and procedures to maintain current capabilities, quality and standards. Oversees and maintains the mouse colony. Basic scientific/experimental assistance/tasks as assigned. Working Conditions Works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications M.S. in a biology, chemistry, or other related science. Highly efficient and effective organizational skills and an ability to keep good digital records. Strong communication skills (written and oral) as well as excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously with great attention to detail. Demonstrated working knowledge of standard laboratory policies, procedures and equipment. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills. Required Qualifications Bachelorâ™s degree with 3 or more years of lab experience including supervisory responsibility or equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 7 years.
Grade R11 Salary Range $54,100.00 - $98,100.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
