gui2de is recruiting a Research Director for the What Works Hub for Global Education portfolio. The WWHGE Program is a large, multi-country research project, co-funded by the UK's Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), World Bank, UNICEF, USAID, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the British Council.
Georgetown University is leading three country research teams under WWH: Pakistan, Rwanda, and Tanzania. The WWH Research Director will both work directly with each research team to provide analytical support as needed, and serve as Georgetown University's research liaison with the Blavatnik School of Government and the WWH central team, managing the development and delivery of grant research outputs.
The Research Director will be based at Georgetown University, and will travel to project countries and donor workshops as required. The RD's responsibilities will include analytical support, research translation, and donor management.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: WWH Common Portfolio Support Lead the development of country research team contributions to the WWH common projects and research outputs, such as a monitoring and evaluation learning framework, political economy analysis, case studies, qualitative research, and implementation science studies
Contribute to producing blogs, policy notes, and other public-facing communications of ongoing and past research
Develop and implement an approach to ensure country team deliverables are consistent and comparable across projects as appropriate, and provide final review and editing prior to submission to sponsor
Manage the timely delivery of grant research deliverables from each country team
Maintain an internal repository of survey instruments, research methods, questions and design to identify common themes and opportunities for collaboration and public dissemination
Hire, train, and manage student RAs as necessary
Assist gui2de's Executive Director with development of partner SOWs
Attend WWH workshops and meetings, and visit country project sites, as required
Present research materials and findings at partner and public events as required
Tanzania Team Support Provide support in contracting of research services
Support Research Manager on TIE EdLab analytical deliverables
Provide support to Research Manager/Project Coordinator in generating policy briefs and other write ups for EdLab Advisory Group.
Pakistan Team Support Conduct reduced form analysis on LEAPS projects
Create interactive and accessible dashboards or online publications on statistical concepts and core research findings
Train research assistant through interactive work
Rwanda Team Support Provide technical support to Embedded Lab staff (e.g. Ministry Requests)
Conduct descriptive and diagnostic work on Teacher Value Added and Teacher Placement from administrative datasets
Assist in curating and maintaining administrative datasets within the Embedded Lab for public research use
Work Interactions
The Research Director will work in coordination with the Georgetown WWH Principal Investigators and gui2de's Executive Director. The RD will be responsible for coordinating with each country research team, across all partner institutions, to develop outputs required by the projects and the central Hub. The RD will also recruit and supervise several student research assistants. Requirements and Qualifications Master's degree in public policy, data analytics, economics, or a field related to international economic development
Minimum of six years' experience with international project management, data collection, and field team supervision
Previous contribution to published research outputs required
Extensive experience with data management and econometrics required
Advanced knowledge of Stata and R required
Knowledge of Survey CTO required
Strong written and oral communication skills are required
Work Mode Designation
