Position Summary
The Liu Lab in the Department of Genetics is looking for a Research Associate to conduct research to understand drug-resistance mechanisms in non-tuberculosis mycobacterium, including constructing mutants and assessing drug susceptibility. This position also includes work on implementing a high-throughput physiological profiling method to characterize bacterial features that differentiate clinical strains of Mycobacterium abscessus. The ultimate goal is to identify genomic determinants that are underlying drug resistance of non-tuberculosis mycobacterium.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
MS in Biology, Microbiology, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
1. Basic biochemical and genomic techniques.
2. Extraction of DNA, RNA, and proteins from bacteria
3. Analysis of whole-genome sequencing, RNA-Seg data
4. Bioinformatic skills (primer design, sequence alignment)
5. Basic knowledge of R language
