Research Assistant (Researcher 1) Location Minneapolis, MN : Required Qualifications: B.S. or B.A. in biological sciences, movement sciences, or engineering (e.g. neuroscience, physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology, mechanical or biomedical engineering, biology) or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years. Preferred Qualifications: Strong organizational skills Sense of responsibility and intellectual engagement Attention to detail Strong willingness and ability to learn new techniques independently Experience with Vicon Nexus motion analysis software, MATLAB, and writing scripts We are seeking a Research Assistant for our interdisciplinary research project studying aging, balance control, and brain neural and vascular health that is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. This project aims to understand the links between vascular brain function during aerobic exercise, neural brain function, and the neuromechanical control of balance reactions in adults across the lifespan. Motivated candidates will have a working knowledge base and prior coursework in neuroscience, exercise physiology, and/or biomechanics. This research assistant will play a vital role in conducting biomechanical and neurophysiologic human subjects assessments involving young, middle-aged, and older adults. They will be responsible for executing duties to keep the lab running efficiently. Job Duties/Responsibilities: 75% Independently conduct balance/gait biomechanics, EEG, and transcranial ultrasound experiments. Experiments involve balance and gait testing using cutting-edge biomechanical equipment, brain activity recordings using EEG, brain blood flow velocity recordings during exercise using transcranial Doppler ultrasound, acquisition and analyzing all data that includes using MATLAB code (pre-written), and researching into publications for appropriate background and protocols. 10% Routine laboratory maintenance: Ongoing work in the lab requires a ready supply of electrodes, gels, tape, laundry, and various lab materials; assist in maintaining these supplies and general lab upkeep in order for a functional and efficient lab; train graduate and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students in becoming proficient in technical skills for laboratory data collection and analysis. 10% Archive data, perform basic analytic procedures involving biomechanical, EEG, and ultrasound data. 5% Working collaboratively with research coordinator to facilitate participant scheduling and communications.
