R&D Scientist

Job Description:
This contractor position is available in the Chemistry R&D Team within the Protein and Cellular Analysis business unit located in Eugene, Oregon. The team develops reagents for life sciences customers primarily in the areas of flow cytometry, fluorescence imaging, and other cell analysis applications. We are looking for an additional hardworking member to support our custom bioconjugates effort. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, preparing, purifying, formulating, and characterizing new custom bioconjugates. Job skills include conceptual understanding and practical abilities in protein biochemistry and/or molecular biology and a willingness to learn new skills.


Primary Responsibilities
Design and execution of experimental plans, troubleshooting, data analysis and preparation, and reporting experimental results
Support the fulfillment of custom bioconjugate synthesis requests for cellular analysis applications.
Apply biomolecule conjugation, purification, formulation, and characterization techniques in a laboratory setting, with a special focus on protein bioconjugate preparation, purification, and characterization. Experience with FPLC/HPLC techniques preferred.
Operate and maintain scientific instrumentation with a focus on optical techniques, including UV/Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy
Maintain a detailed and accurate laboratory notebook
Work collaboratively with other internal R&D and business work groups
Perform tasks independently with mentorship
Be an active member of the team, seeking and accepting laboratory responsibilities to maintain and improve the workplace


Qualifications
Have a B.S. or an M.S. degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or other relevant field
Have at least one year of experience in a research laboratory setting. Experience with protein handling highly preferred.
