This position must be detail oriented, efficient with their time and able to effectively communicate with vendors, company managers, employees, and customers.
Maintain current pricing and product information in the system. Maintain inventories for all divisions at a level to improve turns and fill rate levels yet still give the highest possible level of customer service. Responsible for monitoring inventory min/max and inventory management and planning (IM&P) forecast to determine inventory and re-order levels. Buy products for assigned lines and create transfers within divisions when permitted. Review stock on hand on a regularly scheduled basis and address critical situations in an expedited manner. Perform centralized purchases when vendor minimums are not met. Evaluate and analyze item duplicity and provide recommendations for phase-outs. Proficient in Microsoft Excel including mechanical aspects such as formulas, pivot functions, tables, Vlookups, macros, etc. Work closely with Director of Purchasing and leadership in evaluating best practices for optimal inventory turns. Analyze and make recommendations to Director of Purchasing when analyzing freight costs, transfers, ship direct opportunities, drop ship opportunities and/or pick up allowances. Closey monitor custom inventory for specific customers and work with sales team to eliminate dead stock in a timely manner. Work with current and potentially new vendors to source new products as needed. Evaluate and assess carrying costs versus order and stock out costs. Verify cost on special order items prior to placing the purchase order with vendors. Manage the custom and overstock on all lines assigned for all divisions. Follow-up on vendor backorders in a timely manner. Manage returns on slow or non moving inventory. Communicate vendor performance issues to Director of Purchasing in a timely manner. Maintain the highest level of integrity when negotiating or discussing business with vendors. Maintain timely and thorough communication with management at all divisions to understand the exact product needs of the warehouse and its limitations. Develop strong working relationships and work closely with vendors, sales force, and customer service. Develop reports as needed or requested. Participate in all annual inventories at your home location if completed. Coordinates activities with leadership and Director of Purchasing as well as the sales, customer service, warehousing, and accounts payable departments. Supply Chain Management degree preferred or 3-5 years of relevant experience. Bachelor's degree required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills. Ability to professionally interact with a wide range of key executive members and purchasing staff. Strong analytical skills with a good to excellent proficiency level in Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong mathematical skills with the ability to perform statistical operations. Self-motivated with the ability to follow through on assignments with little supervision. Capable of assimilating information quickly and reaching conclusions. Must have a full understanding of the Purchasing Module in ERP system.
