The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides patient care and works collaboratively with the psychiatrist to provide patient assessment and diagnosis, formulate treatment plans, prescribe medications, order laboratory tests, interpret test results, provide patient education, prepare medical records and refer patients for inpatient care in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession.
Responsibilities
Work closely with the Psychiatric Treatment Team to develop and implement interdisciplinary, recovery-focused treatment.Perform diagnostic psychiatric evaluations, ongoing psychiatric management, including psycho-pharmacologic treatment, appropriate forms of psychotherapeutic support and as needed crisis intervention in collaboration with the treatment team.Responsible for all medication storage.Assure that comprehensive healthcare is identified and treated and the individuals served are educated about their illnesses and provided with health management information and techniques.Responsible for team consultation and clinical supervision and participation in interdisciplinary treatment planning meetings.Responsible for general nursing services.Maintain documentation of clinical care in electronic clinical record.Diagnose clients with mental health disorders following DSM ..Assist in consulting with and evaluating patients and in implementing after-carePerform comprehensive psychiatric evaluationAssist psychiatrists with processing medication refillsAttend and participate in meetings, professional staff conferences, and other appropriate professional activities including, but not limited to, Quality Improvement meetings, and departmental staff meetings, as required.Manage treatment team and clients individual treatment plan.Provide support and education.
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
Three (3) years of progressive professional experience related to the duties outlined.Must possess extensive training and experience in psychiatric/mental health.
Education
Masters of Science in Nursing, with a Psychiatric/Mental Health emphasis, from an accredited college or university.Current license as a Registered Nurse/Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner/Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse PractitionerCurrent CPR certification
