You'll play a vital role in ensuring accurate and compliant coding for all provider services, while also providing valuable education and support to our team.
Key Responsibilities:
Educate providers and coding staff on proper CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding through training sessions and ongoing support.
Conduct periodic reviews of physician charges to optimize charge capture and ensure proper coding.
Respond promptly to coding questions from physicians and coding staff.
Communicate billing-related issues to supervisors or managers.
Shadow providers and coding staff to validate coding against record documentation and identify areas for improvement.
Participate in educational opportunities to stay updated on coding guidelines and maintain certifications.
Recommend changes to billing procedures to ensure compliance with regulations.
Obtain and maintain instructor status for relevant coding curricula, if applicable.
Stay informed about state and federal regulatory guidelines related to coding.
Collaborate with Corporate Compliance to identify areas for improvement and conduct education sessions with providers as needed.
Participate in Accounts Receivable (A/R) meetings to enhance overall coding practices when applicable.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:
This position does not involve management responsibilities and will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field.
3 years of experience in Professional Billing Coding or combined Coding/Billing.
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses:
Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
In Lieu of the Above Minimum Requirements:
Associate's Degree with 5 years of coding or coding/billing experience in a professional billing setting.
High School Diploma with 7 years of coding or coding/billing experience in a professional billing setting.
Other Required Skills and Experience:
Proficiency in data entry.
