The Caswell Diabetes Institute (CDI) provides leadership, coordination, and resources to enhance diabetes-related clinical care, research, and education at the University of Michigan. In partnership with the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative (MTM Vision), CDI will oversee the CDI-MTM Diabetic Retinal Disease (DRD) Research Consortium.
CDI is seeking a Program Manager to oversee the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Consortium as a collaborative alliance of industry partners, academic organizations, and non-profit organizations dedicated to the singular goal of curing diabetic retinal disease. In this critical role, you will oversee and guide the growth and development of the MTM Vision Consortium (Consortium), an ambitious collaboration working with the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative constituents to make significant strides in combating Diabetic Retinal Disease (DRD) and its impact on peoples? lives.
This strategic partnership fosters international collaboration and pre-competitive research involving both academic scholars and pharmaceutical industry scientists. This collective endeavor is fundamental to deepening our understanding of DRD at both the cellular and molecular levels.
As the Program Manager, you will advance and harmonize the Consortium's administrative operations and support the work and interactions of all the scientific pieces of the Consortium's work around the world. Working collaboratively with leaders and staff from CDI, along with researchers, fundraising personnel, MTM Vision leaders, and administrative offices, you are set to become a vital connector among all parties involved. Your role will embody our commitment to excellence, fostering an efficient and positive experience for all members of the consortium.
The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, initiative, and adaptability. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring effective coordination and problem-solving among consortium members, providing strategic insight, and efficiently handling operational tasks to maintain smooth consortium performance.
As the Program Manager, you will be expected to be resourceful, autonomous, and capable of leading and integrating diverse perspectives towards a unified mission.
Work with CDI leadership on development goals and strategies to support and sustain MTM Vision Consortium activities. Collaboratively manage day-to-day operational and financial tasks in concert with the UM MTM Vision Consortium Faculty Director, the MTM Vision BRC Biorepository Scientific Director, and the MTM Vision Chair and Leadership Committee ensuring the seamless operation of the MTM Vision Consortium within the CDI. Actively participate in CDI meetings and activities.  Meet with peer and relevant operational and administrative leads to collaborate, share information, align resources, and be open to giving and receiving feedback in a constructive, professional manner. Provide direction and regular updates to the CDI leadership and MTM Vision team, keeping appropriate stakeholders informed of changes, decisions and metrics that may impact projects executed within the Consortium. Collaborate with key stakeholders and subject matter experts/partners to positively advance Consortium objectives. Anticipate and identify potential problems or risks and present alternative solutions. Monitor compliance with U-M and departmental policies and safety programs. Lead the planning and execution of Consortium events, including but not limited to MTM Vision?s Annual Symposium on Curing DRD, handle internal and external communications and approvals, maintain oversight of fiscal activities, and generate detailed reports re: Consortium activities and progress for CDI, MTM Vision, and U-M leadership as well as Consortium members. Oversee, facilitate, and manage contracts and agreements with MTM Vision Consortium members, including modifications and renewals as needed. Oversee personnel management, resource distribution, and address facilities matters to ensure an effective and agile organizational structure within the MTM Vision Consortium. Develop appropriate communication plans and strategies to ensure information is openly and dependably communicated, following UM communication and branding guidelines. Compile and present critical information for MTM Vision committee meetings, securing that all necessary documentation and outcomes are well-organized and prepared in advance. Develop and enforce policies and procedures, assemble data analytics, and manage functional working groups. Optimize workflows in a manner that is compliant with all regulatory requirements and provides the highest quality of service to MTM Vision Consortium members. Establish a governance framework and handle the resolution of complaints and disputes. Design and execute the budgetary process and manage the fiscal integrity across all divisions of the consortium, including oversight of Consortium financial operations. Master's degree in either Business Administration or a scientific discipline like Chemistry, Health Sciences, Computational Medicine/Bioinformatics, or Biology is required. Demonstrated leadership skills with a proven record in strategic planning, project management, and achieving organizational goals. Independence in job functions coupled with a history of leadership roles and documented professional achievements. Exceptional communication skills both in written and verbal form and capable of building a collaborative team environment. Ability to work autonomously and in partnership across different laboratory environments, institutional offices, collaborating institutions and scientists, and industry leaders and members. Excellent time management skills with an ability to prioritize effectively and make informed decisions. Expertise in strategic planning, conducting risk assessments, and implementing change management initiatives. Prepared to work in concert with others, exhibiting flexibility and dedication to managing shifts in dynamic circumstances. Organizational talent with the aptitude for creating structure in unstructured situations. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software suite and cloud-based document storage and sharing. A minimum of two years of progressive experience in project oversight and management. Candidates may draw on a variety of roles as evidence of significant project engagement, even if those positions were not strictly titled as project management. Comprehensive understanding of project management principles, both theoretical and applied, with demonstrated application of best practices, methodologies, and tools specific to the field. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships, with an adeptness in navigating complex organizational structures and fostering collaborative environments. Proficient analytical skills are a must, as shown by a proven track record of analyzing data, synthesizing information, and effectively communicating results to diverse stakeholders. This position is term-limited for one year with possibility of extension based on funding and performance . At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits.  This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
