Full job description EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Temporary, part-time position; (May 13-July 19, 2024)
PRIMARY DUTY: The Summer Academic Assistant provides the Upward Bound or Upward Bound Math/Science program support in maintaining office operations by receiving and distributing communications; maintain supplies and equipment; serves program participants; monitors residential hall during office hours; assists in program services and events
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Sensitivity to and familiarity with the social, economic, and cultural background of low-income, first generation, and disabled students Knowledge and able to perform duties with general office equipment and programming systems Provide program assistance in event planning Accompany central staff and participants on educational, social, and cultural trips Provide program assistance with administrative processes Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, and various departments on campus Maintain appropriate documentation to meet Federal guidelines Knowledge of various computer software and data management systems, including, but not limited to Google Drive, File Maker Pro, Banner or Student Access. Coordinate with Administrative Assistant and other central staff to complete program needs Advocate for individual participant needs and communicate participant concerns to appropriate staff Recognize and have the ability to initiate and complete general office and program duties as needed Receive general instructions and complete projects independently Maintain participant confidentiality (this is a mandatory reporting position) Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings Attend and participate in a job-training workshop Perform other duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
Experience: Experiences with disadvantaged youth from rural areas

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: Previous working experience in an office setting, personal experience in overcoming academic and economic obstacles to success; knowledge of federal regulations governing Department of Education programs
Skills: Demonstrated leadership skills; effective communication skills (written, oral and interpersonal with an emphasis in relating to student and program service needs); Demonstrated ability of self-directed learning; Demonstrated solid organizational and management skills
WORKING CONDITIONS: This position works in air-conditioned shared office, classroom setting and/or residential hall during the office hours .
