The Department of Psychology at the University of Tulsa is seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic individual eligible to be hired at the rank of Professor (with tenure) to serve as the Department Chair for Psychology. The University of Tulsa is experiencing significant transformation, including a new strategic plan, which leverages the University's strengths as a highly regarded, small, private research institution. The plan focuses on the University's role in fostering the next generation of researchers, scholars, creators, and entrepreneurs across all fields by offering unprecedented resources and support to attract the best students. The university's publicly stated goal is to achieve R1 status (it is currently R2). Therefore, the Department seeks an inspiring and thoughtful leader to work in collaboration with the other faculty to develop a department vision that aligns with the university's strategic plan. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:
* The Psychology Chair teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
* Personnel Management: Oversee and manage departmental faculty and staff, including training, performance reviews, and professional development.
* Curriculum and Scheduling: Maintain and enhance the psychology curriculum, ensuring it aligns with academic standards and current research trends. Manage course scheduling to optimize student learning experiences.
* Teaching Loads and Facilities: Monitor teaching loads to ensure a balanced workload for faculty. Oversee department facilities to maintain an optimal learning and research environment.
* Budget Management: Responsible for the department's budget, allocating resources effectively, and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
* Recruitment and Retention: Lead efforts to recruit and retain talented faculty and students, fostering diversity and inclusivity within the department.
* Accreditation and Assessment: Oversee the department's accreditation processes and ensure compliance with institutional and national standards.
* Department Marketing: Develop and implement strategies to promote the psychology department, both internally and externally, to attract prospective students and faculty.
* Balancing Department and College Interests: Find a balance between the specific needs of the department and the broader interests of the College, encouraging collaboration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Applicants must have a PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or a relatied discipline that complements those in our department.
* Evidence of excellence in teaching, research, and scholarship and distinction in professional achievements appropriate for appointment as a tenured Full Professor in the Department of Psychology.
* Successful history of administrative service and leadership and an ability to develop and implement a departmental strategic vision that aligns with the university's stated goal of moving from R2 to R1 status, fostering growth and excellence in research, teaching, and community engagement.
* Successful history of obtaining external funding to support research initiatives and/or programs, centers, or institutes.
* Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
* Ability to maintain and foster our departmental culture of collegiality, serving as a good colleague and mentor to faculty, staff, and students.
* Integrity and transparency - providing open communication and leadership within the department and across the university.

I-O PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM:
The I-O graduate program at TU offers 2-year MA and 5-year PhD degrees, with combined cohorts of 6-10 students per year. The curriculum embraces the scientist-practitioner model, emphasizing methodological, theoretical, and professional rigor grounded in a "psychologist first" understanding of the discipline. Our graduates readily find employment in a variety of applied settings and some in academia. All doctoral students are actively engaged in research beyond the dissertation and MA students are encouraged to engage in research. The I-O faculty currently consists of one Associate Professor and two Assistant Professors. The program maintains close collaborations with area businesses, most notably, Hogan Assessment Systems headquartered in Tulsa.
CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM:
The Clinical Psychology program at TU is APA accredited and adheres to the scientist-practitioner model. Our goal is to train professionally competent clinical psychologists with a broad background in the field of psychology who can apply psychological theory, assessment, research methodology, and clinical skill to complex clinical problems. Our students go on to obtain both clinical and academic positions in child and adult specialties. The program has a community training clinic as part of TU's True Blue Neighbors Program ( that provides free therapy and psychological assessment services for all ages, with an emphasis on underserved populations. The Clinical faculty currently consists of one Applied Assistant Professor, one Assistant Professor, two Associate Professors, and three Full Professors.
ENVIRONMENT:
TU is a small, private university with approximately 4000 undergraduate and graduate students. It is located in midtown Tulsa, approximately 2 miles from downtown. Both areas are undergoing an exciting period of growth and are home to vibrant art and music scenes. Tulsa is a mid-sized (population ~400,000), family-friendly, affordable place to live, with easy access to urban, suburban, and rural areas. The city of Tulsa is nestled in an area where the Muscogee Creek, Cherokee, and Osage tribal territories share a common boundary. Tulsa is also home to The Gathering Place, an expansive riverside park, that Time magazine calls "One of the World's Greatest Places" ( Oklahoma is geographically diverse, including plains, grasslands, rocky mesas, and mountains, and is culturally unique as it is home to 39 federally recognized Native American tribes.
