Phone:  Show phone number Email:  View email address on careers.nv.gov Position Description Professional Engineers perform a broad range of duties involving assisting the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer contract administration and maintaining and managing a field office and field laboratory.
Incumbent assists the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer with administrating highway construction projects of a diverse and complex nature; interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating construction engineering assignments involving unique or controversial problems; provide training and guidance to staff to ensure that the contractors activities are monitored and documented in accordance with design specifications and contractual requirements; maintaining and managing a construction field office including correspondence and all contract documents; maintaining and managing a construction field laboratory including facilities to perform all field tests required on the contract; and representing the Department for assigned projects at meetings and conferences. Incumbent will maintain a positive and professional public image for the Department while working directly with contractors, the public, local public agencies, and NDOT Divisions as a project is constructed. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
Incumbent assists the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer to ensure adherence to the contract plans and specifications; timely resolution of any plan or specification conflicts or ambiguities; completion of changes in contract plans and specifications through the process of written change order; preparation of progress estimates and authorization of payment to contractor; ensuring project safety on a 24-hour basis; enforcing state and federal statutes and regulations regarding environmental issues; ensuring all labor compliance requirements are monitored and met; and preparation of documentation to support department's position on claims filed against contract.
Professional Engineers may work in an office setting or outside in urban environments and rural environments in a wide range of temperatures and climates. Office setting commonly require working on a computer using a variety of software. Urban environments may be located in areas which require interaction with the public and in areas of high traffic volumes. Rural environments may be outside the city limits and away from readily accessible general services. Professional Engineers may work alternative shifts outside of traditional business hours (overtime, nights, weekend, holidays, and long-term travel on per diem) and may need to report to work will little to no notice.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

Minimum Qualifications Current Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.)

Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
