Summary: Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering within area of assigned responsibility by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned.
Responsible for understanding industrial equipment, manufacturing processes and devices to control standard manufacturing process-control principles. Working with Department Management to optimize operating efficiencies of production output.Leading, maintaining process control design, configuration, simulation, standards, documentation, training, and engineering trials for new materials and processesWork with corporate personnel and groups to implement and maintain new projects for automation systems, operational excellence systems, continuous improvement projects, and follow-up to assure completionDiscuss and solve complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors and suppliersDirect and implement continuous improvements through shared learning and new developments, using Lean and Six Sigma manufacturing improvement principles. Experience with, but not limited to, implementing and training for Kaizen events, Poke-Yoke, TPS principles, Visual Management, 5S, and KanBan systems. Troubleshoot process control problems, identify causes, and make recommendations for improvements and/or take actions to implement corrective actionsManage project responsibilities and action plans by owning the project phases and elements to drive through to completionMaintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems.Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions.Controls project costs by approving expenditures; administering contractor contracts as needed.Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.Provide project management leadership and support for projects that are managed locally or in partnership with corporate teamsMaintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.Requisitions components and supplies for engineering projects, interfacing with vendors to obtain price and product information.Working alongside Maintenance personnel as a multi-faceted approach to resolve unplanned equipment downtime. Resolution may include both short-term, and long-term, solutions.Estimates budget for projectsEstimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Oversight, or Supervisory, Responsibilities: Manage new projects with capital investmentsSupervise an entry-level engineering employee to direct Operational Excellence improvementsSupervise Contractors as required in the day to day and during project installations.Supervise and work with Electricians and Mechanics during installations or modifications of manufacturing equipment Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's Degree (B.S.E.E.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Be familiar with Industry Standards and codes for related field.
Principles or Certificates in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Design software; Development software; Internet software; Manufacturing software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Knowledge of a variety of PLC and SCADA system software packages are a plus.
