The Job You Will Perform: Responsible for a safe work environment and demonstrating safety leadership in all aspects of the manufacturing operation. Activities include, but are not limited to leading safety meetings, conducting observations, correcting unsafe behaviors/conditions, and implementing all policies and procedures Supporting all aspects of the operation, maintenance and capital work of the following key areas of the Power & Recovery department: power/recovery boilers, steam turbine generator, influent and mill water system, crude tall oil plant, mill air system, electric/power distribution system and boiler feed water plant Support operation of all equipment within compliance of applicable environmental permits and regulations Participate in the P&R Manufacturing Work Systems team, working with the team to ensure reliability elements are integrated into short-term and long-term execution plans Ensure that the mill and corporate safety policies are complied with including compliance will all power technology policy manuals Setting and demanding adherence to the highest safety standards and principles Ensuring compliance with all federal/state/local regulations and codes Developing priorities and alternative solutions in partnership with management Provide support to crew operators and Front Line Leaders when needed to cover absences Reviewing and updating standard operating procedures and TCC's as needed Collecting and analyzing data to recommend actions Efficiently and effectively support maintenance outages Contribute to team success by identifying and taking on other duties, which may include mentoring, supervising, clerical tasks and cross-department communication Utilize safe work practices. Engage others to encourage safe work Interact with instrument techs/electricians, reliability and capital engineers to troubleshoot process issues and to support capital project development and implementation. Develop and implement proper control and interlock strategies to support new and existing processes. Investigate process issues and determine what if any control solutions can be effectively applied to increase reliability, reduce variability, and improve process efficiency. Interact with corporate IT resources (MEAS and BIM) to assure correct data is collected Documenting modifications using CAD Provide backup support and assist Process Control technicians in an on-call night and weekend rotation Train operators on new control strategies Monitor and share best practices with other mills to ensure efficient and effective use of process control resources. The Skills You Will Bring: Interpersonal relationship - A great relationship with operators and instrument/electrical technicians is absolutely necessary to be successful. Analytical thinking – Need to be able to see the big picture.  How will any modification made affect other controls, other systems, the operators, and the process. Basic electrical theory - You will need to be able to troubleshoot control system hardware problems and assist instrument techs/electricians with field device problems. Networking - A sound understanding of TCP/IP networking and communications Control theory - A basic understanding of concepts of implementation of PID controls. BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Pulp and Paper Science. 2+ years in an engineering position in a fully integrated pulp and paper mill, or equivalent experience in a related industry Preferred:  Process control knowledge – A basic understanding and familiarity with process control systems and devices such as DCS, PLC's and drives.
