Principal Electrical Design Engineer - Robotic Surgical Technologies Released Product EngineeringThe Principal Electrical Design Engineer is a primary contributor within the Medtronic R&D released product engineering (RPE) team to support released Robotic Capital Platforms for Medtronic's Robotic Surgery Technology platform.This Principal Electrical Design Engineer is a key contributor in a fast-paced environment, working within a team as a technical lead to deliver advanced technical expertise and solutions to complex engineering problems.LocationStandard office setting, surgical lab, R&D lab, external research organizations, supplier visits, limited travel as required.Based in North Haven, CT or Boston, MA (hybrid, office based)Careers that Change LivesYou will be a key member of the Medtronic Engineering team responsible for developing Medtronic's Robotic Assisted Surgery platform through commercial launch and production scale-up, impacting patient outcomes. The Medical Surgical Group strives to enable earlier diagnosis, better treatment, faster complication-free recovery, and enhanced patient outcomes through less invasive surgical solutions. The Surgical Operating Unit sets the standard for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) by creating innovative surgical products and services.Day in the LifeActing as first point of contact for Released Product Engineering (EE HW Design) in order to:Provide rapid response for line-down issues.Coordinate between R&D subject matter experts and other Released Product Engineering counterparts.Maintain electrical/electromechanical products and capital medical equipment.Participate in EE hardware deliverables of the Change Development Process for capital medical equipment.Determine change impact on electrical/electromechanical design and document rationale.Maintain bill of materials using product lifecycle management software (Agile)Perform electrical analyses to evaluate product performance and safety.Compose engineering drawings, reports and presentations to document and communicate design deliverables and analyses.Collaborate with the Medtronic R&D new product development engineering team who will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting the next generation of capital equipment for the minimally invasive surgical robotic platform.Interact and negotiate with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and external partners.Provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to junior members of the team.Research, plan, design, verify, validate, and develop electrical and/or electromechanical products and systems, such as PCBAs, Power Architecture, Visualization systems, Networking, Sensor Measurement, Motor Control, Robots, Transmission, Measurement, and use of energy.Leverages expert understanding of engineering principles and practices, product safety and root cause analysis to design and develop product hardware.Works on highly complex technical problems and provides solutions that are highly innovative and ingenious to a broad range of problems.Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility, or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency, or costs.Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.Additional tasks as assignedMust Have: Minimum RequirementsBachelor's degree with 7+ years of electro-mechanical product development experienceORAn advanced degree with 5+ years of electro-mechanical product development experienceNice to HaveDemonstrated proficiency in working in electrical engineering, computer engineering or related disciplineDemonstratable experience bringing hardware designs from concept through production, including coordinating with contract PCBA manufacturers;Advanced knowledge of analog circuit design, digital circuit design, or embedded system design.Medical device or laboratory analytical device experienceWorking knowledge and experience with programmable logic (CPLD/FPGA)Thorough understanding of engineering practices, product safety, problem solving and root cause analysisIn depth knowledge and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in electrical or computer engineering to develop innovative approaches to workFamiliarity of verification and validation principles, including test method development and proper use of electronic test equipmentEffective communication and collaboration skillsExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independentlyAbout MedtronicTogether, we can change healthcare worldwide.
