Tests Required PLEASE READ AND PRINT THIS JOB POSTING FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THESE TWO MIAMI-DADE POLICE DEPARTMENT (MDPD) POSITIONS POLICE COMPLAINT OFFICER: A Police Complaint Officer's (PCO) primary job function is to receive, screen and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the public via an enhanced 9-1-1 system. The PCO is responsible for the accurate, rapid, and effective evaluation of, and response to, requests for police, fire, and medical assistance.
POLICE DISPATCHER: A Police Dispatcher's (PD) primary job function is the operation of radio and computer equipment to dispatch law enforcement officers and manage radio traffic while relaying information between law enforcement officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department and other public safety agencies.
GENERAL INFORMATION: Applicants must be able to learn how to operate emergency radio equipment, enhanced 911 telephone software and a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to enter or assign emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Applicants must be able to capture, filter, and disseminate vital information verbally and in written form while maintaining a calm demeanor and a high degree of accuracy.
PAY AND BENEFITS:
Paid training starts at $23.05 per hour / $47,952.04 annually (base rate) Upon successful completion of the Public Safefy Telecommunicator Academy: Salary increases to $24.15 per hour / $50,243.56 annually (base rate) An additional 16% competency supplemental pay then added to base rate One pay-step increase 6 months after start of probation Two pay-step supplemental increase when assigned to the afternoon or midnight shift EMPLOYEES ALSO RECEIVE:

COMPUTER SKILLS TEST: Applicants must take and pass a typing test with a score of 25 net words per minute. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifying score on the typing test will proceed to the computer-based skills test, which will evaluate 911 Call Center job duties, such as, but not limited to, the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, decision making, data entry, cross referencing, call summarization, prioritization, and the ability to multi-task by responding to emergency calls. The computer-based skills test takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. Photo identification, such as a driver's license, is required and must be presented to take the computer skills test.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants who pass the computer skills test will be required to attend an orientation and interview. An extensive background investigation, to include a polygraph test, will also be conducted. Those applicants who successfully complete the background investigation will be administered a psychological evaluation to determine suitability and compatibility to perform the basic job functions. The ability to handle stressful emergency communications will be assessed during the training and probationary period, as a condition of continued employment. Upon passing the psychological evaluation, a medical drug screen is also required.
