Position Title:    Quality Engineer
Location: Southern Kentucky or Northern Nashville Suburbs
Summary: The Quality Engineer will be a key part of a Quality Team for the operation over a million square foot of manufacturing space with many different manufacturing processes in the plant including steel fabrication, stamping, E-Coating, Grinding, Drilling, Forming, Welding, Assembly, Packaging, bonding and other processes in an automated operation.  The Quality Engineer will ensure proper levels of product quality, process quality per customer requirements.  They will be responsible for helping to create new quality standards and procedures for new product launches and quality work instructions to perform the job properly and meet quality requirement.  The Quality Engineer will track quality processes, improvements for effectiveness and ensure customer quality requirements are achieved and exceeded to achieve world class manufacturing and best practices for the operation and the division.
Specific Responsibilities: Develop/approve gauging for new programs or gage revisions to existing programs. Perform audits as required. Manage, support, and develop positive working relationships with customers and suppliers. Lead problem solving activities with a cross-functional problem-solving team using specified root cause analysis tools. Support the program manager with product launch and engineering change activities including coordination of pre-production runs and buyoff on pre-production material. Demonstrate proficiency with and utilize the AIAG Core Tools for APQP, FMEA, MSA, and SPC. Responsible for preparation of inspection instructions, visual aids, and check sheets, as required. Attend and participate in Team, Department, Plant-Wide and customer meetings as required. Work with SAP to review date to ensure quality standards are achieved successfully. As a member of the APQP team member of the operation, help to develop the APQP documentation (Control Plan , PFMEA, Process Flow) and drive the team to maintain these documents as changes are made. Lead and schedule the annual FMEA reviews with the APQP team while pushing for development of risk reduction activities. Identify, manage, and audit supplier controls to address pass-through characteristics that impact the plant and customers. Manage customer corrective action submissions and ensure timely, accurate and effective responses are provided. Monitor ongoing activities to ensure corrective actions are maintained long-term. Manage the review of supplier corrective action responses within the company quality supplier portal. Responsible for PPAP sample submissions to customers, review, and approval of supplie r PPAP Promote and practice our "safety first" policy by addressing any hazards, defective-equipment, or unsafe situations immediately. Notify the department leader whenever tasks or scheduled work cannot be completed as planned. Recommend and encourage others to recommend proposals for improving products, processes, systems, productivity, and work environment (Continual Improvement Process). Perform other duties as required. Experience and Requirements: Bachelor's Degree or GED + equivalent work experience 5+ years of manufacturing Quality Engineer experience Knowledge of the AIAG Core Tools (APQP, FMEA, MSA & SPC), Automotive Customer, IATF-16949, or similar quality requirements Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred and computer skills Operate standard office equipment preferred. Ability to read blue-prints Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
